My first...a garage sale find.

Post by twinrider1 »

Hi, I've been reading up on modern RCs, thinking my son is about ready to move up from toy RCs. Stopped at a garage sale and found a tray with 3 chassis', a transmitter, and some other bits and pieces. Wasn't planning on starting with old stuff, but it worked out that way.

Here's what I think is the best of the three. I've been reading here, but I don't really know much about it. I don't see a stamp, so I'm wondering if it really is an Edinger. I appreciate hearing any thoughts you all have about it. Thanks.

That is awesome! You definitely have an early RC10 there. The newer RC cars may handle better at the race track, but there is something infinitely more cool about the old school cars. You and your son are going to have a lot of fun. :)

If you are willing, please post some pictures of the other items you got with this car too.

you've got the early Kyosho 1/8 scale rear shocks on there. I'd set those aside for another project. They are getting hard to find!

how's the condition of the bottom of the chassis?

Nice find! Clean her up, add some electronics, and have fun! Seems like a cool father-son project, more so than just buying a new RC car 8)

Stuff that looks old.
-Airtronics CS 2P radio
-Futaba FP-R2GS receiver
-Futaba FP-S28 servo
-a buggy body and 2 wings.

Stuff that looks newer
-Futaba R603FF
-Duratrax 75A ESC and DTXC4602 Brushless 3800kv (they're made for a Duratrax motorcycle)

I started a separate thread on the Tamiya.

Here's the other RC10 type. I think it's a homemade chassis, but I'm not sure. Is that a stealth transmission? Because they look so clean, I have a hunch he just bolted the motor/ESC in there to make it look more complete.

The bottom is scuffed up pretty good in the back. The nose plate is really gouged up, and I think it's a later part too, the anodizing is darker than the chassis.

Dude you scored! That's kind of a mash up between RC-10 parts, SRB after market parts, and home made stuff.

The trans is not a stealth, it's a early MIP. It's a collectible piece, if you plan to run it find a stealth. Someone will be happy to swap you lol

That rear bulkhead is awesome!

one more hooked on vintage rc crack. you will be an ebayaholic next. There is nothing better than scoring a dusty relic and bringing it back to its former glory. Before you know it they will multiply like rabbits. Grats on the score and welcome to gang.

Btw that is a Hot Trick Stuff nose plate on the rc10, it predates the wide associated arms. It uses a specific shock tower. I am partial to my beater with that front end, but mine came red and I've never seen a gold one, so it may have been custom anodized. great score!

I'm starting to believe they're only hard to find if you're actually looking for them....and they fall out of the sky for people that aren't. :|

My Hot Trick MIP motor plate I have with my RC10 is anodized gold, the color is a pretty good match to the early tubs...

Hey, I'm learning!

I disassembled the gold pan from the first post. Just getting to know the parts up close and personal, getting ready to clean them. Then I found this thread about a Hot Tricks build... http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=20248.

-Hot Tricks front shock tower
-Spring cups on front shocks have no cutout.
-Front spindles are thinner, not beefed up.

you have an early edinger for sure. The rear shocks on that homemade chassis are from the gold pan. nice find, unfortunately all the parts are red now, but if they clean up well, then you could build them as red, or dye them all a uniform darker color, maybe black. I would strip it all down, and use simple green on plastics, and plain dish soap on the aluminum parts.

The MIP trans is an early unit, and you have an interesting gold hot trick nose plate, they were usually red, but were also offered in gold. very very nice score all around. please look through all the threads here, rcresto has a find example of what your can look like after cleaning it all up:
