My blasphemous MIP 4-10 project

Remember that 4-10 auction on Ebay two weeks ago? Yeah, I'm that guy. I stayed late at work to snipe the auction (all is fair in love and war), which ended in both laughter and tears as I realized what I had done to my wallet. My apologies to any of you if you were bidding on it and lost - I get very competitive with auctions like this.

I readily admit that most of the chassis is worn and not so useful for a shelfer. But hey, it's a 4-10, and at least the 4-10 parts are in good enough condition. I plan on doing a complete resto for this, with a few modern twists. There have already been some very nice "vintage" 4-10 projects on here and they are great, and my take is that I don't want to repeat somebody else's work. Nobody has done a WOIN 4-10 as far as I can tell, so guess what? It's on like Donkey Kong.

This thing will get big bores, so get your baby crying out of the way while you still can.

I have a Pro-Line Mirage SS re-re body that I think would be good for this.

The big bores are happening. This might help you cope. LOL.

Btw, your missing the rear belt roller. That's why the belt is on the bulkhead. The bottom is the slack side of the belt, and the roller will prop it up

nice looking car .. i had mip 410 stickers on my rc10 but cant rember haveing a 4wd kit as i had a yz10 ... maybe i just had the tranty

If you don't do big bores, at least do big bore springs and Losi standard bore pistons. The more standard shocks parts you can get rid of the better it'll be!

So it looks like I'll be working on two 4-10 builds. Interesting story behind that...

As you probably know from the link above, I make YouTube videos about most of my projects. I have a reasonable subscriber base of ~250 people. After I made the 4-10 overview video, I received a PM from one subscriber who is quite a generous fellow. He's retired and has been in the hobby for over 30 years and has had some r/c stuff sitting around for quite some time. He has a mostly complete chain drive kit (he sent me pictures...missing a few parts, but nothing super critical. It's an older kit with red steering knuckles, which may have been the first plastics MIP used for this) that he would like to see new life breathed into. He noted that he likes my videos quite a lot and wants to donate the kit for my 4-10 project, plus a Hydra Drive. It will be shipping soon and I will of course post pictures of it when it arrives. I am quite grateful and it is certainly my best r/c story of the year...possibly ever...

So here's what I'm going to do...

Modern/blingy build for the belt drive 4-10 shown above, and something more "vintage appropriate" for the older chain drive kit. Fair enough?

Now the real problem I'm going to have is to resist the temptation to work on more YZ10 projects and focus on these two. Not a bad problem to have...
