VAE's 91 Stealth build

I've been collecting parts for a short time while I was waiting for my chassis set to arrive. I have a few things but still have to wait on a few things before assembling parts.

My plan is to build a clean new built buggy that would have been ready for one of those few awesome drivers that drove them BITD.

The chassis set arrived today, thanks Jake!, so it gave me some motivation to get things started. I dug up the plans for the rear bulkhead and went to town on a original, but well used bulkhead. I did a pretty good job, but I might give it a second go with a new reproduction one if this one isn't new looking enough.

I just found my rear wheels I'm looking for, they are ARP for Yokomo (2) 4WD rear vintage 8305. I hope these will work out, does anyone know? Probably the wrong offset, they were too cheap to be a correct set for one of these builds.

yeah..... those look like the shallow offset wheels.

yup, I'm sure it is too, but I'll compare it to the 1.9 black one I have just to make sure. All else fails, I give back the black one Rod gave me, sell the white one and buy a shapeways unmod'd one.

As I type that, maybe Niki should come up with front dish wheels too , but seriously Niki

Step one and two are done. Rear bulkhead is trimmed and shapeways parts yellowed. This morning I tested out the spurs on the shapeways parts as I shared a couple mugs of my favourite java "Highland Grogg" by Kienna, a local coffee company. It turns out that 30mins is pretty good for two large cups on the Keurig setting.

I left the bell cranks white, but dyed the top body mount because the Associate body mounts were always the same material and colour as the other parts.

I've got the bellcranks together, but it's sure not coming back apart

I reamed out every hole like an 18 year old guy. I had to use a vise to get the right bellcrank pieces together and again to get the 10T hardware in there. I got both on the chassis, but lost patience once I had to ream out the ball stud hole too.

10t parts cleaned up and ready to go.

Hmmm, my bell crank parts fit together great. The only thing I had to ream out was the hinge pin holes.

After talking with a few people who have done the builds, it's a expected thing to ream or drill all of the screw holes and hinge pin holes. I think it's a #30 drill bit you use on the hinge pin holes and steering hardware holes. I forget what the q&a thread said about the screw holes, but I'll post that later for reference. I guess I have some bits to go buy.

What a slow build this is for me. I'm waiting on a buddy of mine who has a storage locker in Montana where we get things shipped to within the US and then he drives down to pick up a bunch of stuff at once. Anyway, he's going down soon... I hope. My hardware is amongst the things in this haul.

In the mean time I cleaned up an original stealth and used a Worlds re release motor plate to give it that new look.

A new white spur gear is a necessity I think

Hey Dave, yup... pretty much all stealth trans are the same. The 10T has the thrust bearing and the Worlds used the thrust bushing between the two thrust washers.

Edit: the slipper is the same... there are some different coloured ones though, not sure which coloured disk belonged to with trans though.

The early and late slipper pads and bushing

Early top, late bottom. Associated found that they did not need to use expensive bearings, they later switched to bushings. The pad material was improved also.
