A stamp JG oval conversion

Post by PlastiZapCA+ »

This will be my attempt at building an oval car. The car will be built using many original and period parts. Only a few re-re parts will be used such as the shocks and a few bits I couldn't find in the condition I wanted. I plan on running the car gently for fun after I've finished it so I'll be going all the way. I'm also going to push myself to actually finish this build ASAP. We'll see how that works out. :P

I'm actually going to be behind from the start. A set of turnbuckles I ordered is delayed due to weather with no update status. I still have plenty to do though.

I'm using a Bolink Chevy Cavalier Modified body for this build. Not sure who made the wheels, Duratrax? The fronts require Associated wheel adapters for Tamiya type wheels.

This is the actual car the body represents.

Instructions for the JG conversion. Looks like I need to build a front sway bar.

The pan is no beauty queen, especially underneath. It will be painted metallic gold with a polished transmission mount. Got it soaking in Easy-Off as I type this. I'll keep the updates coming weekly once I get fully underway, should have a progress update soon.

I'm not sure just yet. I keep thinking I want to do something in a light blue candy. Maybe like this car except with a thin white stripe above the black lower. Still not decided just yet.

Going over to the Autozone before they close to pick up some sand paper. Easy-Off isn't doing it on the anno.

The pan has now been smoothed and is awaiting paint. I've got a filler primer coat on and just waiting for a few spots of putty to dry. I've also shaved the transmission mount and polished it. Paint by afternoon tomorrow.

I sanded out most of the major scratches and was left with just a few spots to putty.

I want the body slammed so the front of the nose plate will probably show through the body. The Associated emblem will be proudly displayed in it's original gold anno.

This is only an initial polish.

8) Don,

What color will you be painting the chassis?

Or should I just be patient?

Cheers, Dave. :)

It's going to be Inca Gold metallic. I may shoot a coat of clear urethane over it for extra protection. It should look pretty cool.

Based on your pan cars, this build should be killer 8) Is this your first RC10 build?

It's my first ever RC10 and here I am converting it to an oval car. :P I have the hots for the CE after reading through the manual so a proper off road car will be in the works soon.

Love it! Nice work on the sanding and polishing.

What about some Pro-Line Sprinter Slicks I think they're called for the rubber?

Thanks! I've been trying to find slicks to fit my wheels. Will 2.2 tires fit on 2.0 rims? I assume the 2.0 refers to the rim diameter? I'm going out to the garage in a few minutes and I'll take some measurements. The tires that came on my rims were 2.0 so I'm thinking my selection will be limited.

I would like to have these, but they're 2.2.
