The title says it all. Is there a certain tool that is best for this?

I've never tried it but a plastic dash trim removal tool should work well and not damage anything.

If its on one of mine, I remove the hinge pin. With that much play now, it makes popping off the ball cup very easy, and a damage free task. Partial disassembly of the car is needed however.

Some of the ball cups are easier to release then others and can require different tools or techniques. For vintage Associated stuff I agree with marlos approach.
If your in a hurry a good running start into a hard object usually works for me, but don't get carried away and do what this guy did...

If your using the new glow in the dark green associated cups all you have to do is look at it for a minute and when you turn away they pop right off

Re: best way to pop off ballcups?
That's funny? I beat the shit out of mine on my runners and they never pop off. I make sure to snap them on square to the ball end when new. I thread the first few turns on the turn buckle by hand, pop them on the balls. Then I use the tool to adjust for correct camber and toe. Not sure why you are having these pop off so easy? I was even thinking they work better than the originals, even the black ones! Anyway, to remove ball cups, I try to use the prong on the old stamped AE tool that came with all the kits. Just slide under ball and twist to pop off. If you are trying to preserve rare round or half hex white ball cups then I prefer Marlo's approach!gomachv wrote:If your using the new glow in the dark green associated cups all you have to do is look at it for a minute and when you turn away they pop right off
