Big Boy Toys Restoration

Post by JOHNBOY74 »

I recently acquired this awesome Big Boy Toys sprint car and it appears that it has never been run and only sat on the shelf, hence the pile of dust on top of the chassis..lol. I plan on tearing it apart and polishing up the chassis but was curious if it was all original? It has Andys front arms, MIP transmission, and Tecnacraft wheels (one is missing from the pictures but I do have it). I don't recognize the shocks, did they come with the kit? Also is there anybody making re re bodies for these?

I wanted to keep it period correct, should I leave the MIP transmission in it or use a trackmaster tranny? Also would the barts front arms be correct as well? I was also thinking of using these old slotted wheels I have instead of the Tecnacrafts, any thoughts?

I've always liked the slots on the sprint cars but the tecnacrafts look really good too. Depends really what your preferences are when its all done I guess. I'd also leave the MIP tranny if it was mine. 8)

Hi,

Looks like a Vindicator.

+1 for keeping the trans.

Cheers, Dave. :)

Shocks are Kyosho Platinums. Windtunnel sells an old Bolink sprint body that fits. PN WT2396...not the Challenger or All-Star. You could also try contacting Gary McAllister and see if he's still able to pull a Gambler or Silver Bullet body.

Both trans were used for dirt oval so either is a good choice. The Trackmaster made for a better dirt oval/on-road conversion trans than it did an off-road buggy/truck trans....so something to consider is what other builds you might have planned and which of the two trans would be better for it.

The slotted wheels (Mini-Mags) you have look like they're all the same widths so I'd stick with the Tecnacrafts. :)

EDIT: Thinking about it scratch the Windtunnel body....wouldn't look good with the down tubes. :x
