My RC10B3 mild resto

Post by sammydavisjnr »

Hi guys, I've been reading these forums for a couple of years on and off. Around a year ago I came across someone selling a B3 for $65 aud and picked it up thinking I could use it to have a play in 2wd stock at my club, I didn't realise that it would take me a year to get the car to where I wanted it. First stop was a hobby shop for new tyres for better grip, soon learned that the B3 was rocking 2.15's - So researched here and found that the axles/driveshafts and hubs could be updated to B4. Let it sit for awhile then set about upgrading those items.

Next was the realisation that the standard spur was likely to be too large, but a B4 conversion could be achieved. Once I tore that apart I realised the internals could use some love, so thanks to oldrc.com (Sabula tech) the whole tranny got updated to the shiny stuff. Last but not least, a body from amain, and a custom paint from one of the local pro's. 2.2s went on with aka rebars, 10$ esc from hobbyking and an unused Tamiya Mabuchi went in and I debuted it at my local almost 12 months after I originally purchased it. Unfortunately I only have these photos as my old phone died :( and Im terrible at backing up. Anyways just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all of you guys who do the hard yards and research/experiment how to improve older rc's.

The end result was a brushed stock car that is only 1 lap slower on our track than my B5 running a D4 Trinity!! And it drives beautifully! Thanks again! Enjoy.

welcome to the board. The b3 is one of my favorite of all buggys. Takes a beating and still keeps rolling. Drives great and looks good.

I'm betting with some more drive time in that you can get that lap cut down to a little less than your b5. Looks Good. Like the simplicity of the paint and not overdoing it.

I too am a huge fan of the B3. I absolutely love mine. I retired mine from racing a year or so ago...maybe I should bring it back out. Nice car BTW.
