Masami 1997 IFMAR World's B3 by slotcarrod
Masami 1997 IFMAR World's B3
I have a wonderfully painted Masami body by VintageAE that was to go on a runner but things changed and that runner became a shelf queen. I restored this runner B3 with all new parts. Now the question... Do I make a correct Masami replica or do I make it all original as you would build from the kit?
My old B3 had every Factory Team option, but was no Masami replica. To do a replica, I would need a few harder to find parts but I don't think totally out of reach. They did not use the custom rear tower that the 99 IFMAR B3 did, that would be a job for gomachV btw. I'm feeling lazy these days and I need another project like another hole in the head! I like the idea of a replica but, I like my mostly box stock car because it looks done! A replica would take spending a lot of money finding rear tires, KO rx and servo, Tekin ??? ESC among other things. Not wanting to spend now as trying to save for a Ruger precision rifle. I'm trying to talk my self out of it but just can't. Replica or stock?
This is the only body off picture I can find of Masami's 97 B3.
Great Video
Update: Found this great shot from above.

This is my somewhat stock restoration with new parts so far.
Reedy Sonic 2 motor
MCI decal set for the winning Masami 97 Yokomo MX4 were mostly the same for the B3 and are now compared to past, excellent quality and seem almost as good as original.

Rear tires are not an issue if you wish to make a replica...I have you covered. Losi Sprintsslotcarrod wrote: A replica would take spending a lot of money finding rear tires
FWIW, the 97 IFMAR Worlds were held at Ranch Pit Shop in Pomona, CA...I did go an watch some of the races. I got to watch Masami drive with his feet, it was incredible.

Lucky Joey to see that! They were Losi sprints! I did not know, looked like some sort of strange Yokomo to me. Thank you for the offer. I will keep you in mind If I decide to do a replica. Thanks again, please save them for a bit!

So Joey, You watched the mains? If so, did you feel that Masami maliciously took out BK?

Do the replica! Just take your time collecting the parts and once you have them, just change everything over at once. Either way, you have a nice B3 to work with.

Re: Masami 1997 IFMAR World's B3 by slotcarrod
When you say "kit" car do you mean a box art replica or as is from the kit?
Both the Masami car and the box art car are on my bucket list at some point. Seems you have a pretty nice Masami body that would be a shame to waste on a runner but then again doing something other than a 'Masami' car has its benefits too. Either way you go your build will be top notch as usual
When I came back to the hobby a few months ago I finished my B3 Factory Team #9043 kit that had been sitting in the box since I bought it in the late '90s (maybe very early '00). If you decide to go the kit route and need any pics or anything, let me know.

Re: Masami 1997 IFMAR World's B3 by slotcarrod
Thanks. What I mean by "kit" is how you would build it out of the box. My build has, white Proline wheels, FT Ti turnbuckles and blue screws that are not factory. That's why I say mostly stock/kit.
If I build a Masami replica I would need (off the top of my head):
Blue motor plate, chassis plate, and I guess nose plate.
Ti front button head screws
KO RX and servo (not sure type?)
Tekin ESC (not sure type?)
Yokomo Sanyo 2000's early type
Losi Sprint rears
Silver early FT wing buttons
Aluminium CVD's

I'm not 100% sure but I think Masamis car had NOT the blue chassis parts?slotcarrod wrote:Thanks. What I mean by "kit" is how you would build it out of the box. My build has, white Proline wheels, FT Ti turnbuckles and blue screws that are not factory. That's why I say mostly stock/kit.

You will also need the rear custom made shock tower + blue anodized wing tubes and replace the shiniy cvd's by black ones. Why titanium button head screws? Can't see any on Masamis B3?
Cedric!?? Help please
