RC10 driveshafts

Post by squirrelnutz »

Hey guys, I'm doing a custom build that involves using the rear suspension and CVD's from a B3. I won't be using the B3 tranny but I want to use a Lethal Weapon tranny. I got the B3 used and the driveshafts don't seem to be the proper length. They seem a bit short and look like they will pop out of the diff cups. I'm guessing if I use the Lethal Weapon transmission I'll run into the same problem.

I'm wondering if I could use a set of B4 CVD's with my B3 or would they be too long? Would anyone be able to take a measurement of the B4 CVD's for me?

Thanks!

it's hard to say what you have without seeing it. A set of B3 CVD's should fit a stock B3 just fine. B4 CVD's are about .400" longer so unless you have B4 hubs, they will bind badly.

CVD's are a pain because one end is fixed, leaving all the 'slide' function on the drive side. If the camber, axle shims and shock inner bump stops are not correct, the bones will pop out.

Just from looking at the picture of a B4 CVD, I knew it was a bit longer. Here's a picture of what's going on with my B3. It looks like it may be an aftermarket MIP shiny CVD or something.

Take a look at my post B2.3.4 Racer. I replaced the original universals with a set of the CVAs from the Worlds re-release. I had to shim the hell out of the axle, but the bone end fits just fine in the hub. A few other members mentioned using the shafts from the B44 (rear center I believe), which is slightly longer. If you have a local hobby shop with decent stock, I would just go measure a few shafts and see what works best. That is what I am going to do to eliminate some of the shims.

I don't believe an A&L trans is going to fit between the rear arm mounts on a B3.

I know the A&L tranny is not going to fit the stock chassis. I'm going to be cutting a new chassis from a fiberglass sheet to fit the new transmission.

adding a degree of camber, move some axle shims to the back side, and another limiter in the shock and it will be lined up OK.
