Late Edinger. Looking for suggestions on esc, servo, etc...

Post by Islemn »

I have a 1986 rc10. All original parts. i can't get the speed control or servo(tried with working receiver) to work and would like to replace the parts. I have the original edinger motor plus 3 more NIB trinity motors. Any suggestions or ideas as what to do? The bottom of the gold pan has some scratching, so not worthy of a shelf queen, but will only be used occasionally. Thanks

it depends on what you would like to do with it. Is the speed controller the mechanical one, that attaches to a servo?

if you know your radio is good, but the servos don't work, then find some suitable replacements. They can be cheap replacements equivalent to 85 specs, or could be newer reasonably priced units that will be a step up. For example, you can find replacement futaba servos, the S3003 or S3004 are really cheap and equivalent to the old S28 or S128 servos that were made back then.

if you want an electronic speed controller, you can find cheap brushed controllers, whether vintage or new, quite easily on ebay(used vintage) or tower or amain, etc(new).

I have the mechanical speed control. It was never put it. ko propo electronic speed control, receiver and ps-201s servo were put in from the beginning. I would like to use a newer radio, receiver, speed control to go with the motors that I have. There are a lot of choices out there, not sure which to choose?

Castle for the esc and motor. No need for an expensive set, and they work perfectly fine. You can get a good combo for $100. If you actually want to drive the car, upgrade to a brushless setup. Sell your motors to cover the cost. I was in the same state as you a few years back. I went brushless and Lipo, and haven't looked back since.

Hitec for the servo. Again, no need for the expense of a Savox. Get an HS-77BB, it's small and easy to fit into an RC10. I've had mine in the car for 3 years, and haven't had an issue, that's even with track use.

I do plan on driving this car. I am looking at the castle sct 3800v brushless? is 3800v ok? At first I plan on using a traxxas TQ receiver and transmitter? I have some old servos around - Futuba s3305, fp-s148. Will they work? Thanks Harley

Castle 3800 is way too much motor for that car. If you want to use your original motors, grab a Hobbywing 1060 esc. They're about $20 and work great.

The old servos will work fine, and the traxxas transmitter is, well, honestly, crap. But, on something that is only driven on an occasional basis it's fine.

I was incorrectly just assuming the car had a Stealth tranny, not sure why, but ca-rj is right, 3800 is too much motor. If it had a stealth tranny, 3800 would work perfectly.
