Well it was about time I did a build thread!

Title says it all, its a Ten 4, its going to be a runner
I'm building with spares from my runner not the most economical way to do it... Most parts are rere except the RPM arms
and the body post.
So far I am really pleased on how its coming together. I was surprised how strong the shapeways parts are, bending them on their sprues showed they are flexible. Tapping them out soon had my tap hot to the touch. I really like how snug the bearings are, I wish the 6565 stealth case in my runner was as snug. Perhaps somebody will do a 3d printed stealth case.
Care had to be taken to seat the bearings properly in the steering arms otherwise the axle would bind and not spin freely.
I also had to take the dremel out on the tub to clear the bellcranks properly. Problem which is present to some extent on most cars with original pre worlds bell-cranks.
Also had to cut the stealth case a little so the screw recess nearest the belt guide cleared better.

Still missing some bits: hinge pins; towers; Robinson gears and pulleys.

Done some of the less fun stuff.

Had to position the servo twice, it "should" be good now. Before the servo saver was directly beneath the belts path.
The battery position really has be thinking, perhaps ot would be better to put transversely and as far forward as possible.

Any thoughts on this?

Your taking some different paths there, I like it.

Brian sells some special battery cups on shapeways that fit a shorty lipo using stock holes. I have also made some G-10 battery holders this way. The way you have it positioned should work just fine as well. The main thing is keeping the battery terminal out of the belt.

The direction is to more or less to keep in line with my rere worlds runner.

I have learnt the hard way that the biggest limitation of these old cars is weight distribution, getting them to go over the jumps that did not exist 25 years ago. Modern cars are more evenly balance between front and back.

Got bored today.
So I hacked up a rere front tower and borrowed an old CE tower. Now I have a roller...
Slung the belt in and held it in with anything I could find. I checked all the clearances and they look good.

I still hate those rere shocks grrrrr

I decided to ditch the rere shocks and will mount the longer 0.89 stroke shocks up front the same as my 2WD runner.

Longer shocks need longer towers... GoMachV to the rescue

I think the belt is tight but it runs beutifully

I put a LRP X20 10.5 turn in it and it flies... Bare in mind this same motor is too fast in my 2WD runner. 25* of advance stock and very strong rotor magnets make it too crazy for me in 2wd. I had to settle for a much tamer speed passion 10.5
Which is more controllable.

Tomorrow is timed practice, and sunday the last leg of our regional championship.
The track is astro turff which is loveley.
Unfortunately 4wd was scrubbed due to lack of interest. Maybe next year...

Nontheless I will give it a spin during timed practice, maybe I'll put a transponder in a see how it compares to my 2wd.
Anyway I'm terrible so it would be meaningless.

I am very happy with how it has come together, and the performance blasting it up and down the street has been amazing!

Track report.
The belt is too tight causing the car to nose dive on most jumps.
This needs to be addressed before and objective opinion can be given.
Proper belt should be here this week, I will repeat saturday weather allowing.

Astro turf is new to me similar to carpet. I had lots of problems with my 2wd Rc10: too much rear grip; understeer.
I really need to figure out how to set the thing up for astro turf.

So far ready for next time I have cut of all interior and exterior spikes on tires. That should loosen up the rear.

Any advice is welcome althou not much astro turf in USA.

Usually they say not to lessen grip on one end, but rather increase the grip at the other end to match. On our SC5M's we added some weight to the front which really helped with the "push". Now the trucks turn on a dime.

What front carpet tires are you using?
