Steering Blocks for 1984 RC10? Help....

Post by LJH »

Hello All,
I miss judged a curb the other day and did a bit of damage to my resurrected 1984 RC10. I have every thing all sorted with the exception of a steering blocks I damaged. The buggy had in-line steering blocks and used the vertical pin to hold the axle, that had a hex on it, captive. I bought the ASC6216 which are not in-line steering blocks and they take a different axle. I did a bunch of searching it it looks like the axles that go with the ASC6216 are either no longer available or are super expensive. What would be the cheapest way to get going at this point? Can I use the ASC6225 and ASC7222 blocks and axles? The axles say they are "wide" so this is a bit of a concern.

If one of you Vintage RC10 Guru's could shed some light on what best to use it would be great.

BTW, my son and I are just using the buggy for having fun so it does not have to be the "fastest" set up.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Jim

The steel in-line hex axles and blocks you have were introduced with the RC10 Graphite and used on the RC10T and later vehicles. They are fairly rare nowadays since they were not re-released.

The 6216 blocks you bought are for the the original RC10 with steel trailing hex axles, secured with an e-clip. They are easy to find since they were re-released for the RC10 Classic but as you noticed you can't use them with the axles you have.

The easiest to get parts for a replacement in-line axle setup nowadays are the 6221 (black) or 6225 (white) blocks and 6220 aluminum axles. They were used for a few generations of RC10 cars and trucks. The blocks were re-released with the newer Worlds Car.

The 7222 wide axles you mentioned are the wide (and blue) version of the 6220. They were intended to make the front end of the RC10GT truck as wide as the racing rules allow but they have found a second life as a way to put deeper-offset B4 wheels on an RC10 buggy (like the re-released Worlds Car) and have the geometry still be correct.

Just a heads-up, the aluminum axles use 5-40 nuts, not the standard 4-40 nuts the steel axles (and pretty much the rest of the car) use. You need to use either the included black nylon plastic nuts or the gold nyloc nuts for the RC10 six-dear diff topshaft.

Thanks BF, parts are ordered and it looks like the axles come with the nuts.

Appreciate your help on this one.

Cheers,
Jim
