Vintage Buggy Tires

Post by Basher67 »

I'm wondering if anyone can help me identify these buggy tires. I also have the matching fronts with same tread. They say "ae T.Q.-20 made in Japan 6820". I've tried searching all over the forum and elsewhere on the internet and all I came up with was "Vintage associated tires". Were these original to a particular model or kit? They look really cool and I'm going to use them on a build of mine but I'm curious about their origins.

Ok, I just saw a pic of the box art for a graphite version and it looks like these tires. But the same pic shows pin spikes on the front so I don't know where the fronts came from. Sorry I don't have pics of the fronts. Theyre soaking in acetone right now to remove them from the rims they're on. They look Identical to the rears, just narrower.

Yokomo made these for Associated. As far a I know only the rear tires with this pattern was used in the rear of the TQ10 buggy. I have not seen any oem kits using the fronts, but they sure look cool matching front and rear on any buggy of that period.

I had a suspicion they might be Yokomo since they were made in Japan. The fronts say T.Q.-70. I agree, I love the look. the fronts are so wide they almost look like front 4wd tires. I was very happy to find a front and rear set in good shape.

Think they are the pyramid spikes as shown on this info sheet that came in my RC10 box.
