I believe that's about the equivalent of a 13.5 motor... That'd be pretty fast. :)

Correction Reedy 3200kv motor.
They also recommended a Wolfpack 2s Lipo 3300mah 30c 7.4v battery and Ready 423-S compact balance charger. Can I run a 3s battery with this setup? I was looking at the Turnigy nano-tech 2200mah 3s Lipo 45-90c battery from Hobby King.

Hi,
2 cell = fun.
3 cell = too fast = broken parts.

Looking at your pictures, is that a six-gear transmission? If so, I would check out this post:

Sounds like you will be rolling the dice as to whether it holds up or not.

Below is what I originally posted before I saw the pictures.

According to Associated's website, 3300kv is the motor limit for a 3S on the Reedy SC600. I agree with DaveM, 3S is way fast. Heat also becomes a big factor when running a 3S. I have a 17.5 in my Worlds Car and it is faster than any brushed motor I used to run. Super long run times and heat is a non-issue. If you are looking to save a few bucks, there are sellers on eBay that part out brand new kits (about $75 for that Reedy combo you are looking at). I have had good results with Castle Creations Sidewinder 3 sensorless. Using the Castle Link software, you can dial in the ESC however you want (mild to wild). I have the 5700kv in my 10T, it is a rocket, but very driveable the way I have it tuned. They just came out with a sensored version if you want to spend a little more. And I only run 2S.

IMO, for practicality I see it as 2S is for 1/10 and 3S is for 1/8 ...

My 5000maH battery in my castle combo in my SC10 can run a full race day w/o even a recharge and it's pretty damn fast. My Xerun 17.5 in my RC10 and B6D using a 3800maH seems like I could probably do the same.

So for having fun... I'd go a bit milder on the motor and gearing (to keep the heat down since you're not running 5min races and then resting for an hour). The fact that you can recharge the LiPo and use them them multiple times a day is a huge win over NiCd/NiMH too. I used to bring 5 packs of NiCd per car on a race day at $50+ a pack. Now it's one $50 lipo PER car per race day.

As for 6gear tranny... I'd be a bit concerned if you were running a hot motor. I'd definitely want to have a speed control to help ease the stress on the tranny. Then again, you can always run it... rebuild it... if it blows, get a Stealth.

Thanks for the replies. Planning on ordering the Reedy 3300kv brushless motor and SC600 brushless esc this weekend and will update the post. Hoping the car will be fast with this combo. JRacing wheels arrived this week and need to order tires and front bearing as well.

Quick question, would running a setup like the Castle combo in the link below be a better setup for speed and reliability than the Reedy 3300kv motor/sc600 esc combo?

That's a pretty fast motor... I'd worry that a older tranny / drive train wouldn't handle that power/torque. Those old 6-gears have alot of rotating mass and no slipper.

I have a castle combo (might be that very combo) in my SC10 and it's very fast even with the really low gearing I have. You'd probably want to dial that power/torque back which would kind of defeat the point.

But hey, you might be fine. I would just do some routine tranny inspections to make sure things are still tight, lubed and don't show any bad signs of wear.

Can you recommend a Lipo battery that will work with the Castle electronics?

Any decent LiPo will do. I personally use Venom LiPo batteries... they come in many options in size/shape , mah and C-rating.

In my truck I use the Venom 30C 2S 5000mAh 7.4V Sport Power LiPo ROAR with Universal Plug. It's a full size stick pack like the older cars used to use. I can't vouch for fit into the older cars cause I haven't tried. Sometimes things are tight.

In my B6D and my modified RC10, I use a shorty pack... about 2/3 the length of a stick pack. It is smaller/lighter and allows you to shift the battery around. But you may need to come up with a different strap to hold it in. People make adapters / battery cups. There's a thread on here for mid-motor RC10 and he has battery cups 3d-printed via Shapeways to mount a shorty battery sidesways vs. front to back. https://www.shapeways.com/product/ZH83HYQNQ/rc10-transverse-shortie-pack-battery-cups?optionId=59794612&li=shop-inventory
Venom 60C 2S 3800mAh 7.4V Shorty LiPo Battery ROAR with Universal Plug ...

I love to watch Amazon for batteries because sometimes the prices start to drop in order to move them...
For example, it's currently cheaper to buy TWO (2-pack) of these than a single. $48 for two LiPos seems good to me ... Venom 35C 2S 3800mAh 7.4V Hard Case LiPo Battery ROAR with Universal Plug @ https://www.amazon.com/Venom-3800mAh-Battery-Universal-Traxxas/dp/B00FE0RWB6 ... Only thing is you often need to be decisive because once one or two or sold the prices go back up.

For example... I bought a 4-pack, kept two and sold two for the cost of the 4-pack... = Free LiPos. :D

I have had no problems with my Castle products, no experience with the Reedy. Castle has the Castle Link (http://www.castlecreations.com/en/pc-software-and-cables-4/castle-link-v3-usb-programming-kit-011-0119-00) for programming the ESC (free program download to install on a computer). There are a ton of settings you can play with to tune it however you want. My favorite is the throttle curve (I have it set to accelerate slower off the line to stop wheelies, but at the end of the curve its like a nitro boost). 5700kv is very fast. I had that same motor in my B2 and it was uncontrollable unless you were very light on the throttle. It is now in my 10T and tuned so I dont break it.

Thanks again! I ended up with the Castle creations sidewinder 3 4600kv brushless motor and esc combo. I'm still having trouble narrowing down what 2s Lipo battery to purchase. Castles information recommends a 2s 5,000 mah or larger and a discharge rating of at least 30C. I'm still learning about Lipos, can someone that has more knowledge help me out with this?

I was also given a Traxxas 6513 controller and 6518 receiver. Hoping this will get me by.

You should be able to use those specs to narrow down your selection. SMC, Venom, Reedy - it's all personal preference. Venom has a great warranty, and for the most part their batteries are aggressively priced.

The 's' (as in 2s) are the number of cells, each are 3.7 volts, so a 2s battery is 7.4 volts (equal to the old 6 cell 7.2 nicd/nimh). The mAh is the capacity of the battery, the higher the number the longer the run time (also adds weight). The 'C' is the discharge rate and is kind of complicated. 30C will do you just fine. Here is a good, in depth guide.
