New RC-10 B4.2

Post by Ucsdmutt »

So I just bought a new B4.2 from eBay for $112, did I get ripped off? So this will be my first non vintage RC-10, any advice? Is the B4 the same essentially as the 4.1 and 4.2? Any info would help out alot, and thanks for your help.

Sadly no, it was listed as a display model so never ran.

I'd say it's an outstanding deal.

I think you did pretty good. I picked up a 4.1 rtr brushless (minus transmitter) on ebay a few months back (also my first non-vintage) for less but it also came with a broken chassis. Anyway, the chassis’s fixed and I really like how the car handles. Haven’t had time to tweak any of the settings but it still seemed pretty good out-of-the-box. Power it up, run it and let us know what you think? For differences in the various releases, check out Rod’s “25 years of the RC10” topic in the RC10 Buggy forum.

So I bought a Reedy servo, can't seem to get the Futaba servo arm to fit from the B4.2 kit. I believe it is a 25 spline, and I read Futaba is a 25 spline. So I ordered the aluminum one that's listed as an accessory on the TA site. Servo didn't come with a screw either! And the B4.2 kit's states to use the screw that comes with the servo lol!

And what is up with the foam dirt rings on the ball joints? Do we even need that? I️ noticed the B6 doesn’t have them...

That's a great deal. I paid $175 for similar in past. It's a brand new RC10 for around $100.

Does anyone know if the chassis for the 4.2 is the same size as the 4 and 4.1? I want to buy a pre-cut chassis protector but can’t find a lot for the 4.2. Thanks for the help.

They do list AE T4.2, the truggy should be the exact same chassis right?

I think 4.1 and 4.2 are same? I give you an 80% confidence :D Throw some bling factory team parts on there too.

AE parts lookup for "B4 chassis" is showing:
B4 Composite #9560
B4 FT Carbon #9561
B4 FT +8mm #9637
These p/n’s are same for B4, .1 and .2.

They are all interchangeable. I thought the 4.1 and 4.2 came with the +8mm chassis as one of the main differences from original B4.

It is +8mm longer (redesigned to help with stability and cornering, I believe).

According to the Associated web page, the B4.2 Race Spec (which I speculate you have) does not come with the +8mm chassis. Not sure how to measure the chassis to determine if its the +8mm, but you can measure the wheelbase.

standard chassis = 273mm
https://www.teamassociated.com/cars_and_trucks/RC10B4.2/RSRTR/specs/

+8mm chassis = 281mm
https://www.teamassociated.com/cars_and_trucks/RC10B4.2/Factory_Team/specs/

The manual for the Race Spec also calls for the standard length chassis (part #9560).

Looking good! Nice and tidy. Just about time to get'r dirty though. I think you will like how this car handles - very balanced. There are places on my track that are extremely rough and this car handles those sections better than any of my vintage cars. However, mine came equipped with a gear diff and I think swapping this for a ball diff would improve corner exit performance.
