Is it worth going brushless in a T3?

Post by WestTxRc »

Is it worth going brushless w/lipo's using an RC10T3?
A lot of videos I see show stripped gears, flipping backwards because of too much power.

I imagine it's been answered before on here... Sorry!

Its worth it. Just don't go overboard. Stick with a 10.5 turn and up motor with 2 cell lipos and you'll be fine.

The only problem with going Brushless is the expense. yes the motors are much better and the long run times are great, but be ready for a total new learning curve. I don't have a local hobby shop to go to to bounce questions off of. so its been a lot of trial and era. and I burned up a new 10.5 LRP, but I must say their Customers service is second to none.

You don't have to go with a monster setup, either. A 17.5 or 13.5 would likely be much quicker than what you've run in the past, but wouldn't disintegrate your car if you clip a curb, or hit a tree!

While brushless (sensored) is better than brushed, I've been able to get a supply of brand new motor brushes, a couple of lightly used "modern" brushed speed controls, and even a couple of nice brushed motors for absolutely free from people who had gone to brushless who didn't need them anymore. I've got 2 esc's that can run as low turn of a motor as I could possibly ever want. You can find brand new brushed motors on ebay for pretty cheap. Why would I want to spend all that money on a brushless system when I can run a very fast brushed motor for less than $30? My transmitter/receiver are newer 2.4 but as long as I can keep up the speed for cheap with a brushed system I just don't see the point in changing. Brushed is all I've ever known so it's not a pain for me to deal with. It's normal. At some point I'll make the switch.
