HISTORY OF THE RC10T

Post by marlo »

History of the RC10T
This thread is devoted to accumulating and sharing the group's combined knowledge of the RC10T. This effort was spearheaded by Marlo, who built and updated this thread for a number of years. For reasons unknown, all of his posts and his pictures were suddenly deleted, so I'm now trying to rebuild as much of this thread as possible. This is why so many of the pictures are now missing. If you have pictures to share that can be used to fill in the gaps, please let me know! Post them in this thread or send me a PM.

Now, on with the show:

Marlo's Post #1:
I thought I would create a "history of the RC10T" thread, as this will be a work in progress, I would ask all who can contribute to please use my research page https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=33929 for info updates Thanks 8) (Jim Edit: If you have new info to post, please post it in the thread you're currently reading, not in Marlo's linked post.)

RC10ST....Prototype truck...... (Non-Production)

Debuting at Florida Winter National's in 1991, and taking the top 2 spots, with Cliff Lett's first place win, a new era of race winning trucks was born.

The RC10T....(1991-1996) 2wd electric truck

The RC10T, using the same basic platform as it's RC10 counter part, was released in three kit forms. Starting with the #7001 (Truck), #7035 (Team Truck), and the #7011 (Sport truck), all of which went through rolling changes, and part revisions along the way, and will be covered later on. All RC10T's were released with a black chassis (either "B", or "C" stamp), Rear 1.32, and front 1.02 shocks (Hard anodized...7001, 7035, or Gold bodied, all 7011's) with gold springs, and all had the stealth transmission. All 10T's were built at the Cadillac address, in the USA.

Pre-production parts
Very doubtful pre-production parts every made it to any production kit........ (still need to add the servo saver, and add production side, by side photo's......)

The #7001 (truck)
(1991-1992)
The first truck of the series. The 7001 had a short production run (1991-92), being phased out, and replaced with 2 new trucks. A "nearly" race ready Team truck(#7035), and a entry level Sport Truck(#7011).

Early 7001
Early B stamp offset battery chassis, early half hex ball cups, early stealth brace, thin non webbed
arms, thin shock towers(2-hole) ,Kit standard 15 deg. front block carriers (#6213). and non marked Pro-45/Pro-90/& narrow tires.

Mid 7001
Early B stamp off set battery chassis, early half hex ball cups, standard stealth brace, thin webbed arms, same thin 2-holed shock towers. Possibly 20 deg block carriers (#6214), Team Associated logoed Tire's,
Front wide #7870, front narrow #7871, and rear's #7820

Late 7001
Much the same as above, but with Inline B stamp chassis, with counter sunk 6 gear Tranny holes, full hex ball cups.

.......All included the "early" stealth gear cover, and #6122 body, Full bearing set, and Hard anodized shocks. Motor, and speed controller were not included.......

Early top, late bottom...Note: While 7001 kits had a full ball bearing stealth transmission, even the #6901 slipper drive bearing was included. Shortly lived, however, the bearing was soon replaced with a bronze bushing #6596.

#7035 ( Team Truck )
(1992-1994)

The Team truck came in three versions.
Early: The chassis was now an in line B stamp. Full hex ball cups, standard nylon tranny brace, 20* blocks, thin webbed arms, thin 2 hole towers, narrow/multi paddle tires.... much like the #7001. This information is posted elsewhere on this site, I included it, but cannot confirm. It would have been a very short production run!

Mid: The more common type to be found, as it had the longer run of the three. Also using an in line B stamp chassis, AE had upgraded most everything else. Updated thicker arms, 3* rear mounts, 0* rear hub carriers, thick 3 hole (front) with dual stud locations, 4 hole (rear) towers, graphite tranny brace, aluminum front inline axles, and 30* blocks, and universals were added. Solid wheels, with standard multi rib front tires, and marked Pro-90 rears. Standard rear bulkhead.

Late: Now a C stamp chassis, everything from version #2 could be found on this last instalment of the #7035, with the exception of thick black composite arms, and a Worlds rear bulkhead. Front tower now has a single stud mount location.

All included the #6135 Team Truck body, and Hard anno shocks, full bearing set ( with the exception of #6596 slipper bushing ) and a Cadillac gear cover... Kits did not include any electronics.

---As in every case these are only guide lines, when one type was being replaced with another, parts were used up, and I'm sure a few variations exist.---
This information is courtesy of Charlie don't surf.

#7011 Sport Truck (1992-96)
The Sport Truck was very much comparable to the RC10 CE, having the longest production run than the other two trucks ( even being sold along side the T2 at the end). Like the CE, a Mechanical speed controller, Full bushing kit, standard dogbone axles, and stock motor were included. Standard 3-piece wheels, and #7820/70 tires are the same as the #7001 Truck, as is the #6122 body, and decal sheet. Gold shock bodies are now present, with nylon shock caps. A few changes were made throughout the run of the Sport Truck, most notably at the end, when all black parts were used.

The Sport Truck can also be broken down into four production categories... although the categories will only show common era specific part combos, this is just a guideline, as AE would have used old stock at times in part transition stages...

Early
Late B stamp chassis 20* blocks, thick arms ( one hole fronts ), thin 2-hole towers, #6217 steering blocks/steel #6218 inline axles, standard rear hub carriers.
Mid
Late B stamp chassis, 30* blocks ,thick arms ( two hole front arms ), thick multi-holed towers, updated steering arms (#6220)/with aluminum front inline axles, standard rear hub carriers.
....Note, 30* blocks, and the updated steering is now used till the end of the sport truck production run.

Late
Late B stamp chassis, standard rear bulkhead (Worlds type rear bulkhead is found also), thick black composite arms, standard rear hub carriers.
-This version can also be found with a C stamp chassis-

Very late (all black)
C stamp chassis, all black parts ( with exception with the 3-piece wheels ), Worlds rear bulk head,T2 type arms, and composite towers, 0* rear hub carriers.

A very nice example of a "late" #7011.
Up until now, nothing significantly has changed, other then the towers (thick multi-holed). This example sports the newer updated rear bulkhead, with thick comp. A-arms, mounted on a late "B" stamp chassis. While this is a "rare" combo, it is not uncommon to find parts such as this grouped together. Part combos such as these were carried over onto the "C" stamp chassis.
