RC10T - "Red Truck" Out Of Retirement

Post by RC10th »

Having not touched an RC car in months and missing out on purchasing another 10T I decided to get old faithful down off the shelf to turn back into a runner. I replaced the new chassis with a crappy old one, put some old tires on it and installed some modern radio gear.

I will get a new team truck body with some fresh paint to run around with before this one falls apart. I'm not a fan of red but this truck screams "Old School"

For the electronics I went modern for the convenience of run time and fun time. Something to take to the park and run around for 20 minutes a battery with good performance.

I put a Hobbywing combo in it from one of my old race set ups. I used a Hobbywing V2.1 120A ESC, Hobbywing 8.5T motor and a Power HD low profile servo. The truck is overpowered at the moment as it wheelies on command and tries to rip the tires off at speed.

Dave invited me over today to catch up and check out his projects so I took the 10T along with me. After eating Aussie meat pies and a coffee for lunch we stepped out to run the truck up and down the road for the first time. Aside from being overpowered all went well, nothing was broken in the process.

Pardon the crappy pics taken from my phone then zoomed in to actually see something.

Dave is driving.....

Here is my truck next to Daves runner, a 10T Team Truck which is kept in excellent shape. I love the simple paint jobs from back in the day.

Hi RJ,

I had a great day.

After seeing the pics, I need to put some 10T rims on my truck.

A new painted shell would be nice as well.

:)

I had a blast today, thanks Dave.

I think next time I'll disable any dynamic timing and bump the front oil up 5wt to make the front bite a bit less. While the speed was fun I can see things getting broken in a "hold my beer" moment.

Should I stick with the early body or the cheaper and more plentiful Team Body?

Paint up a shell just like that one.

We should have taken some pics in the shade, it was much too bright outside!

The pics look washed out. :)

I should try some two hole arms as the front is still on the softer side with #3 piston and 40wt oil.

The pics look great, good shots.

Seems like you two had fun, and that is what it is all about. Wish I was there..

Thanks, it was fun  I need to learn how to change shutter speed and what not on my phone to get crisper action shots.

I did find out something interesting yesterday while fiddling with the truck. I was looking at it and it appeared like the rear was ever so slightly toed out. After careful study of the hubs they were definately degreed, but had no markings on them whatsoever. I swapped them around and it gave the rear some toe in. This explains the willingness to turn.

They were on backwards, swap sides (as you did) and you are now straight as an arrow... hopefully.

Yeah, much better now. They weren't marked left or right so I didn't pay much attention to them.

Even in a slide you get forward drive now, it actually handles quite good for an old girl.

Just pondering what to do still about the body.

Leave it alone, run it. Get a replacement body for when you clean it and sit off to the side.

We all clean our trucks after running them right......

I've got a new clear body for it that I took off so I could run it, I also replaced the chassis so I don't scratch a new one.

My dilema is the red body is old and falling apart and should be replaced. Do I get an early style body and paint it boring ol' red again to keep the "spirit" of it alive? Or do I paint an early style body in a more exciting scheme, or go a team body to change it up?

Here's a few pictures from the original add when I bought it off Craigslist nearly 10 years ago. The truck is different to this one but I've always had a soft spot for the body for some reason
