RC10GT vs. RC10 Stealth trans

Post by blubblood »

Anybody know if the mounting hole pattern are the same for the GT and Stealth trans? I'm wondering if a GT trans with an electric motor plate would be stronger for a powerful brushless motor?

I can take some measurements tonight.

Are you looking to try a mid-motor conversion? The GT trans is a laydown/forward mounting unit, and it a bit longer/lower than the stealth.

I have yet to see an instance where a stealth is not strong enough, and the GT trans is internally the same, aside from a 2.6 ratio.

I am looking at a mid-motor. The NIX chassis I have drilled for a reversed Stealth. I have a Trackmaster belt drive on it now, which is pretty big and a lower unit is kind of appealing. I'm looking at a high-speed build. I just thought the gas trans might be more durable.

GT trans does not have the same mounting pattern.

It is however a great way to make your car mid motor, provided you work out the rest of the details, rear bulkhead, shock tower, rear arm shock mounting etc. having a different pattern I think makes drilling holes easier as they probably don't end up on a 'half hole' the way flipping a stealth trans might.

you might actually be able to just change the arms and towers out on a GT tub truck and turn it into a car more easily.

I'm already there. Reverse Stealth holes are in the chassis. Arms, bulkhead, and shocks reversed. I'm just kinda undecided on the trans. I have a mid-mounted Trackmaster belt drive on it now. I'm waiting on Raborn half-shafts. I was really wondering if the GT and Stealth have the same mounting pattern and if either would be better for high-speed, on-road blasts. Seems like the Stealth would be more efficient.

You answered my bolt pattern question.

The GT tranny makes for a great mid motor conversion. I have one. You'll need to drill new holes in a motor plate, and fab some kind of brace at the top, but it's a rather easy conversion. The GT is what they now call a "lay down" tranny.

My big concern was whether the chassis bolt pattern was the same. I like the 'lay down' format.
