Stealth transmission felt dust gasket substitute part

Post by EMC »

Since the felt dust gasket is no longer in existence for the old stealth transmission on the RC10T (part 6566 on the diagram, which strangely comes up as a plastic cover on lots of sites). What is a good substitute. My felt cover is starting to disintegrate. Would the T2 neoprene gasket work? RC10T2 part: 7373?

There used to be a company that made one out of hard neoprene foam, like you can find on yoga mats and stuff like that. If you can dig around in crafts shop or Walmart or a place like it for some foam sheets, you can cut one out.

Of course most guys just ditch it anymore.

Good call, it's a fairly simple shape.

The T2 one does work but like jwscab said it's pretty easy to make them with a hole punch an knife/scissors. I used an old blue short course proline tyre insert an foam that originally came from an esc box...

I got one new in package randomly as a bonus to an RPM transmission I bought... can't believe those things are going for like $25+ nowadays!? I'll probably just cut one out!

I noticed on the RC10 worlds rerelease manual that they don't even include one, which is interesting.

Found the vintage hop-up part that is essentially non-existant now. It is made by ETA racing and is called the stealth transmission "super gasket". There were so many people jumping into the RC aftermarket in the 90's it seems. It would be so fascinating to see a comprehensive list of RC accessory companies from that era. I wonder how many made a good profit.

It seems like someone with a CNC machine could cut them pretty easily. Not sure what material they would use though?

you would need a water jet to cut these out to make them look professional or a 'stamp/punch' in the shape to cut them.

Awhile back I tried getting someone to repro the ETA and to make it affordable I had to have them cut about 200 of them to bring it down to $10 each from the guy I had estimate them. Since I couldn't afford to sit on $2k worth of yoga mat foam I cut some out myself. Traced the ETA one onto the yoga mat type material and cut them out. For the holes I picked up some leather punches and used them to punch the drive and mount holes in them. Not perfect but for under $20 in materials and tools they fit the bill. Either way though I still get dirt in the tranny so to be honest...wasn't worth the time and effort spent. Thats just my experience anyway and am by no means trying to discourage anyone from trying it...cuz I'd be down for a few if you wanted to offset the cost and time

I have some knee pad foam I'm going to try with some hole punches. Hopefully it doesn't get too hot and melt against the motor plate. :)

I tooled one using my Dremel and a Drill Bit.
This is an air filter piece for a hedge trimmer?
I picked up for couple bones at a local Hardware store down the street.

The closest thing online to this I've found is here.
You can see the one I tooled in the picture.

I've seen their other stuff before, and I question the legality of selling products using various company names and trademarks that are still active for a profit.
