Open Wheel RC10DS

Post by DomEOD »

Hi all,

I just got this DS (my first). I have a second parts car on the way as well. My plan is to build a Hill Climb car with open wheels, front a rear wing. Saw an example of one of a Facebook group and I had to follow.

When I say "open wheel", I don't mean F1, but this kind:

So far I've swapped out the stock chassis for a left over Worlds Car chassis from another build. I also mounted original RC10 front shocks in the rear. Once I get my new tower installed, I will experiment with installing some GT front shocks, possibly rear's in possible. This build is mainly just because and to look badass. If it turns ok, then that's awesome too.

I currently have a few different parts coming to me in the mail this week:

Wheels/tires
JConcepts Detonator RC10 body
Wing tubes and a few wings
RC10GT CF rear shock tower

I'm hunting for a power plant. But I'd like to do it old school and get a sub 10t brushed motor/ESC and run some NiMHs.

Status until the gear comes in:

Mocked up the electronics tonight. The battery is just a place holder until I get my new 3S in. Still waiting on the rest of my parts to come :(

Looking great. I like the use of the milled chassis. So what wheels and tires will you be using on the build?

The original DS wheels would be a great choice but being that you have the conversion on the front im curious to see what you will use.

I have a set of DS wheels to use in case my plan doesn't pan out.

I ordered asset of the HPI Vintage 5 spokes in 26mm and 31mm. I want the Stock Car wheels but can't source any stateside until late Feb or March. I also got some Vintage tires to go with the package.

What I bought:

Who makes that steering servo? I have never seen one that small.

It's this one:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__42370__Turnigy_8482_DRFT_303_1_10th_D_Spec_Steering_Servo_4_5kg_0_10sec_39g.html

Most servos like that made by the higher brands (Airtronics, etc.) are stupid expensive and you usually will only see them 2wd buggy. This one came with the car and I'm just going to keep it in there.

That is going to look sick when done! Nice job on mounting the front wing. You have a picture of the front for location where you mounted it?

I kept it simple.. It slips right under the front brace after loosening some arm mount screws. Once you tighten them back up, it's as good as before. I haven't noticed any binding with that brace under a bit of pressure either.

Done for now. I need to figure out the gearing before i rework the suspension. Then to figure out the coloring of the wings.
