I'm just saying it's okay if your shims don't get you to 200mm wide overall...it's not necessarily a hard target number. Though, either way it's not a big deal, so you can go ahead and forget I mentioned anything about it.

If you want the same track widths? Yes.
Track width is the distance between the middles of the two tires on the axle. The middle of a tire only changes by half of what the tire is narrowed by.
The middle of a 1.5" tire is at .75"
The middle of a 1.2" tire is at .6"
The 1.2" tires are .3" narrower than the 1.5" but there is only a .15" difference in where the middles are. The overall width (to the outside of the tires) gets decreased by .3" per side, but the track width (to the middle of the tires) only gets decreased by .15" per side.
Shimming the axle .15" per side will put the 1.2" tires back to the same track width as the 1.5" tires. The overall width of the rear axle will still be under 200mm though. It'd be about 193mm.
That's not to say I think you should make your car's rear axle 193mm wide. I don't know exactly how wide your car should be...which is why I also said you can forget I mentioned anything about it.
All I meant to suggest is that you can use whichever hubs and shims look right to you even if it means not being 200mm wide.

Thank you Phin for your expertise. I think i'm getting the hang of it now and it's such a pleasure tossing out questions on this forum as I believe all knowledge is here.
On another note. Found this the other day and lovin' it.
John Peterson's car in RCCA March 1997, but it does not say if he used it in -97 or earlier.

It has been a while since I updated on this build, but there has been som progress.
Rear end is in place and battery packs has been built. Cells bought trough Aliexpress, braid funded by NomadRacer and made some matched decals using Dotrice font on self adhesive paper.

Played around trying to create a antenna mount for the car.
I had these body posts lying on the bench and thought: Hey! Is that what Clausen used on his 1991 car?
Well looks kind of similar anyway

Summary of the build so far:
Newly bulit AE hard anno .56 shock with silver spring.
TRC aluminum ball joints.
HPI hubs and wing mounts.
Kimbrough 64p 120T spur.
Composite Craft Teflon tape on upper pod brace.
Some BRP aluminum 4-40 screws here and there.

Made some progress this weekend.
Delivery of servo, soldering Schottky Diodes, modified housing and re soldering wires on esc and tried different layouts of the electronics.

Thanks man, quite pleased with that myself
Next up is to get hold of a body. I'm leaning towards repro Tamiya Mercedes C11. The cockpit is abit on the high side in profile, but era correct. I have noo big hopes finding a AE 6125 Jaguar for this build.
I also need to manufacture a front bumper and tidy up the wiring.
