Green parts

Post by Shady Rascal »

I got these from a chop shop on eBay for a couple of dollars. He was parting out re-re Worlds Cars.

Is there anything I can do to make them white ? I'm familiar with peroxide bath to freshen up old parts. Will that help brand new green stuff though ?

I really don't want to have to dye them black.

unfortunately, it's green through and through, so i don't believe it can be made whiter. I was wondering if the same machine used for injection molding fluorescent wheels is used for the other parts, and residual yellow plastic is what causes the green parts. I happen to be reading about injection molding screws and cavities and it was mentioned a few times about having color issue due to carbon and leftover plastic in the machine.

I hate to hear that because I sure didn't want to have to dye them black.

Usually with a changeover of materials or colors, you get a tie dye effect for x number of parts and then it goes away. Good molding practice is also to run white polystyrene through the whole system (from the dryer/hopper) as a type of purge. In any case, the green parts I've seen are really consistent; like they just have the wrong material. Has Associated ever commented on this?

I used to run extrusion and the ratio was only like 5% colored pellets to 95% plastic pellets. Just one 1/16" x 1/8" pellet not cleaned out of the hopper properly or stuck in the system somewhere could make for a bad day.

What did you end up trying? In the same boat with some rather green bellcranks and ballcups...

The green bellcranks will be worth thousands in a few years because everyone threw them away

I wound up installing them. Once installed, the greeness isn't as noticeable.
