Sold for $40,700 ... did that even cover the work you guys did on it?

Nah, he probably had around $55-60k in building that car.

You never make money selling a car you restored. Especially if you had to pay someone to do all of the work.

It's a shame. When done right, most of those resto's are works of art.

I've gotten into a couple of car resto shows lately, and it is truly amazing what can be made if given enough time and money! :shock: One of my favorite shows, due to quality of build, is Fantomworks, the numbers that accrue with some of these builds is jaw dropping.

On the other hand, I look at the crap rolling off the production lines these days and can't help but think picking up an old vehicle with some style and rebuilding it for the price of new is a pretty good trade off, so what's the difference between dropping $50K to $60K on a new car or resto'ing one for $50 or $60K? Yeah, yeah, restos can get into crazy money, I'm talking about making a daily driver, not a show stopper. Me personally, I'll take a mid 60's or 70's Chebby truck, toss in modern conveniences and call it a day. 8-)

Not unless it's an iconic Boyd Coddington or Chip Foose car.

If you buy something more mainstream from the 60's-70's there are more than enough "bolt on" parts in the aftermarket to build something at a relatively decent price. If you get into sort of off the wall cars/trucks then you get into a lot of fab work making stuff work and the clock is just running......

Chip's cars don't seem to come up at auction as much as Boyd's cars do. But I don't really watch a lot of the car auctions either. That being said, unless it was one of the famous builds like the Alumacoupe or Chezoom, I don't really see Boyd's stuff go for a ton of money..... compared to what it probably cost for them to build it.

The 72 442 we've been working on is just about finished. Gotta get the top installed yet and finish up the rear interior panels once that's done. Also charge the A/C...... and a couple other little things.

Been awhile since I posted anything in here so i thought i would do a little updating.

The Model A is rolling along. Just about done with the body work on the body. 3/4's of it is in primer and we'll probably start getting it blocked in a little while. Once we lifted the body off the frame we decided to just get the frame done. So long story short, got it painted and back to roller status. Still have to finish the rear brake lines and get the emergency brakes figured out.

HAven't really taken many pics of the 70 Chevelle the last few months. But the body work is done and the panels are in primer. Got the body of the frame and onto the rotisserie. Sandblasted the bottom and cowl/firewall and got it painted. After that was done, tore the frame apart, got that up on the rotisserie, sandblasted and painted. Along with all of the other chassis parts. This guy is on a budget so we didn't spend any time fixing any rust pitting or anything like that. Just put a fresh paint job on the stuff. After it was back together, set the body back on it. I'm hoping to get the engine painted tomorrow or Wednesday.... as long as the new oil pan shows up. Then i can get the trans bolted back on and get it back in the frame.

Once the engine/trans is back in the car, it can go over to the other half of the garage and chill for awhile so we can get my kid's new toy in the shop..... a bagged 99 Dodge. It needs a little bit of work to get it inspected and on the road.

That model A is so fine - If money were no issue, I would have a M38 done the same way.

Is that Dodge ment to be riding that low?

Is that a Duce frame Jason, doesn't look like a A frame to me?
