Finally got around to fabricating a cold air intake for my '08 Torrent GXP.

Before - craptastic plastic abortion of an airbox:

StockIntake2.JPG
After:
CAI_1 (Medium).JPG
CAI_2 (Medium).JPG
CAI_3 (Medium).JPG
I cut down about 1.5" from either end of a 90° aluminum elbow @ throttle body, used 3" - 3.25" and 3.25" - 3.5" couplers on either side of the stock MAF, cut down a 45° elbow and installed a universal 3.5" K & N cone filter on the end, right where the intake air-hole is located. Installed an oil/sludge catch can. Had to drill the 90° elbow and make my own grommet for the PCV valve, and re-routed new PCV lines to the catch can. I made the initial catch can bracket from aluminum, bolted to the inner fender, but it was a bit floppy, so I added a brace to the front. Now it won't budge.

It was a lot of work because no aftermarket company makes a CAI for the Torrent/Equinox 3.6L; that motor was only an option for 2 years on the Torrents. Putting a stock-config K & N filter in the existing restrictive airbox doesn't make much sense to me. Might as well go to town and build my own. I still plan to fabricate a heat shield separating the filter and intake tube from the motor.

As far as fuel economy goes, I was averaging between 10.5 - 10.8 L/100 km before the intake. After, I'm now getting about 9.8 L/100 km...or from about 21.8 mpg to 24 mpg for everyday driving...even my most conservative estimate is that the fuel economy increased by about 10%.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3
