This could be considered strange. I decided to braid my wires instead of cutting them, I was feeling lazy. I think there's some kind of advantage with shorter wires and less weight up high lol, but hey, it looks cool! Next pic, I'll post something a lil more abstract.

Here is a grainy one for you. Shows the limits of an iPhone camera. It nicely captures the moment though and has a Edward Hopper feel to it.

Bloody hell!

I tried to blow it up to read it, but it just went blurry.

I like to think I am smart, but you can have that one on your own!

Good luck, I reckon you will need it.

Saying that I am sure it is logical, 1 step at a time.

I wish the Chinese would build a stand alone computer for F.I

With just the basics needed for the motor to run.

And cheap.

I think there are plug and play EFI systems, of course you need a few things like O2 sensors but otherwise pretty painless.

This would be as simple as it gets... Surely the computer could be adapted to any throttle body but it wouldn't be as simple as just plugging it all together.

Hi RJ,

Dude you are living in the past.

You should have put a late model F.I motor in your Fairlane.

More horsepower, smoother idle, 450 hp stock add a 150 hp nitrous set up.

600Hp on pump gas.

I watched a Youtube video where they went to 300 HP nitrous on a stock bottom end motor.

They thought it would blow up and they were right, they needed to add more ring gap for expansion.

One of the pistons a small bit above the top ring came off.

450 HP + 300HP nitrous = 750HP.

Their dyno result was 700 HP before blowing up.

Now before you say nitrous is illegal on the street, they can be easily hidden.

Back to F.I,

I mean a simple computer that plugs into a factory F.I system and uses the stock sensors and injectors.

Even larger injectors.

I have seen a couple of stand alone units in Australia, one is Australian made, I can't remember the name.

They used to cost about $2,500, now they probably dearer.

The Chinese need to step in and produce a unit for say $600

Probably wishful thinking.

:)

I was more referring to the use of the computer for ease of use for throttle body fuel injection, which is basically just a computer controlled carburetor. Outside the 80's I doubt anything had TBI.

A stand alone generic computer for sequential injection gets a lot more complex with different firing orders and timing of injectors etc. Less plug and play, more programming and sensors to set up. The factory computer is likely the easier solution as it would already be set up for the engine at hand.

Sorry dude,

I don't think you are understanding.

There is at least 2 standalone units available in Australia that can drive a factory fuel injection system,

completely taking over from a factory unit.

I know because I was trying to help a guy around the corner from me, with his fuel injected 13B.

He didn't listen to me and at the end I was right.

It cost him a lot of money if he had listened to me I could have save him 1000's

I said buy new sensors first they are relatively cheap.

2ndly go through all the wiring make sure there are no crimp connectors, they have to be hard wired.

You don't want to add resistance to the wires.

The sensors work on the correct resistance.

So he sends his computer away to be tested, comes back no problems.

Still doesn't work.

Buys new system $2,500.

Installs new system with new sensors, system works.

Replaces new computer with old computer, system works.

It was a sensor that was faulty, which I told him try first, sensors are relatively cheap.

He was getting the work done by a so called mechanic, so $100 an hour for labor.

He won't tell me how many hours he was charged.

All for a bloody faulty sensor!

:)

There are plenty of systems capable of running an EFI system, I'm not disputing that. In saying "with just the basics needed for the motor to run" those systems are advanced systems capable of more feedback and control then the factory systems.

I'm basically saying for simplicity "basic" a factory computer is much easier to install.

We should temporarily change the title to "Argument of the day"

Hi RJ,

I'm not arguing, I am having a lively discussion.

When I make a comment I always back it by fact, from experience or research.

Now, simplicity?

A factory Holden, Chev computer has to be reprogrammed/modified.

I only quickly researched about these computers others will know more.

The computer will not work because of the security system.

You have to have the correct key in the ignition to over ride the security system.

So the computer has to be modified, I believe there are other features that have to be modified as well.

Ask me how I know?

I wanted to put a v6 Chev into a Hilux.

The company that I was researching was charging $900 to modify the computer.

Again I only had a quick look at what needed to be done.

:)

Not to go offtopic in a offtopic thread,
but,
the ecu's fitted with 98+ LS powered vehicles are amazing with how flexible the are.
VATS (anti theft) can be disabled using HPtuners software.

The only issue I have with motor transplants is the maze of wiring that needs to be pruned out.

When I upgrade daily drivers next, the driveline will be coming out of the current one and going into something old using this efi:
https://www.msdperformance.com/products/fuel_systems/atomic_efi/atomic_efi_ls/

I'll see if I can find a interesting pic in my phone :D

Cheers,
Dan.
Team B3, OG Worlds car, B5m.
Plus some other junk :D
