I've used oxylic before with good results, I think it's the best choice if your trying to keep the chrome (not pitted)

I used the My winter break from work to revamp a couple of bikes of mine. I have this Kestrel Talon that I made into a fixie for a few years when My son was all into fixie's.

Recently I have been riding it to work but honestly I've always hated the fixie part. I picked up some 9 Spd Dura Ace parts and along with a few other parts I already had and turned it back into a road bike minus the drop bars.

I've had this Tommasini Road bike for well over 25 years. I had it set up as a nice road bike with Period Dura Ace parts. I always thought it would have made a better fixie candidate so I took most of the parts off and installed my fixie parts. I left a front brake on as it takes a bit to get my fat ass hauled down to a stop. Very pleased with how well it turned out and now that it has a brake, I don't mind the fixie part. I will however install a freewheel on the other side of the hub so that I can switch between fixie and freewheel.

Nailed it!

I just have to ask, how did you know?

I won't go into too much boring detail. Basically, back in the early to mid 90's, I was big into bmx racing and was sponsored by ACE Products/ Chip n Dale bike shop. At some point in 1994, they started making these frames and being a factory rider, got my hands on this one. As far as I can recall, this is one of the first 5 production 20" frames ever made. There were at least one or two prototypes before they went into production. I remember trying the prototype out at the track one night. Was pretty much the same thing that went into production with a few minor tweaks. The thing that stuck out in my mind the most about that prototype was that the chain would slap on the chain stay tube. One of the few things that were corrected before they were released.

This frame is not only super rare and one of the very first produced, but it has a crazy history since I've owned it. Had it stolen sometime in 1995. Recovered the frame only. Wasn't hard to find considering the unique design. The thieves painted it flat black, but somehow I still knew it was mine.

I ended up putting it back together with whatever remaining parts I had from racing. Was never as nice as when it was initially assembled, but still cool.

At some point around 96 or 97 I traded it to a buddy for his mountain bike, which I regretted immediately. Lost contact with the guy til around 2000-2002. Ran into him one day and asked about the bike. Fortunately he still had it sitting in his basement. Forget whether I bought it back or traded something. Important part is, I got it back.

I rode it a little more after getting it back and has been sitting safely ever since. I see these frames once in a blue moon and usually pull some nice cash. But this one will never leave my possession again. Too much sentimental value to put a price on.

I need to get some new pics of my bike collection and maybe dig up some old bicycles today magazines. Had my picture posted in a few from big national events BITD. All I need to do is dig through some boxes that have been in storage for 20+ years and I'll share with you guys.

Go easy on me. I'm 37, way out of shape, and been retired for close to 20 years. And I have a 7-year-old who is learning, so the jumps aren't very big yet. Pic is from this summer. Just moved into my new house, started building an rc track, and my son was bugging me to build bike jumpa. Of course, dad had to show him how it was done. 8)

Every time I see this pic, it reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite. "You got like 3 feet of air that time."

Harry697,

Way back then i was into dirt jumps / trails,
The freestyle bikes were just too heavy and awkward so naturally i rode race bikes and the hoffman flash was the bike of choice.

I had a flash back and first thought it was a hawk or cannondale.

Then remembered a slingshot or wholeshot.

Google varified the manufacturer "ace"

Great story on the bike though,
Always cool to get your childhood memorys back.

I tried to get some of my old frames back,
They all went to ebay long before i enquired about them.

Considering how little you have ridden, doing well better than i would today.
