Bfast differential rebuild kits B4
Bfast differential rebuild kits B4
anyone try these? i just built a new b4 diff with their carbide diff balls, treated rings, ceramic thrust balls and treated washers.
all i can say is HOLY MOLY this thing is butter. it almost feels loose it's so smooth, but it's not loose at all, it's perfect.
meanwhile the diff i took out was like a box of rocks, the car is going to be nasty this weekend.
best $37 i've spent in a while.
try it if you haven't.

Re: Bfast differential rebuild kits B4
I've always wondered if they were worth the money... so they're so much better than stock (and new!) components?kaiser wrote:anyone try these? i just built a new b4 diff with their carbide diff balls, treated rings, ceramic thrust balls and treated washers.

Re: Bfast differential rebuild kits B4
absolutely.
i haven't run the car yet with it but just on feel alone it's a huge improvement.
the rings are ground down to be 100% flat so all balls make contact, the thrust balls are a dream come true as well.

ok - no slipping whatsoever? That's the risk on ceramic balls / treated rings combos, they require crazy hard diff springs to provide enough tension to prevent slipping... and then the diff screw goes ting... Just asking, not criticizing
Thanks for the help

These kits are simply awesome.
I am fortunate enough to be a team driver for B-Fast here in Australia, and also sell their products for them here as well, with a number of the coutries top drivers using them now as well.
The quality of the products is simply superb, I use the carbide balls on all my vintage rides now - as well as the plates where they fit on them as well. They last and last - great for the vintage cars as they tend to get used quite a bit here downunder!!
Like others have said - smmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmooooooooooooooooooooth as BUTTA!!!
Cheers

no slip (granted i've only bench tested, but no slip), no risk. build the diff according to ae's instructions and it's good to go. tighten the diff bolt just like stock, until the ears bottom out in the outdrive.Lonestar wrote:kaiser wrote:absolutely.

bfast includes instructions on how to break it in, takes about 2 minutes to break in.

Re: Bfast differential rebuild kits B4
Ive heard a lot of great things about these diffs. A lot of top drivers in the northwest here use them and swear by them.
It will cost a few dollars to outfit all my cars though!

What they are doing with these kits are what all top drivers have always done anyway, great idea to sell them for those who don't want to spend an hour on their diff!

A diamond honing block and a little time is all you need to get the same results with the diff rings. The thrust rigns are a different story since they're much more difficult to hold on to while getting them flat.

Re: Bfast differential rebuild kits B4
- Used a Bfast kit in my B4 a couple of months ago, it too was buttery smooth. It reminded me of the diffs from my 1/12th Corally using ceramic diff and thrust bearings with trued diff rings..
The Bfast kit also lasts much longer than regular factory equipment.

Though, I think they are using a surface grinder and fixtures to make them flat as opposed to hand lapping them on wet/dry 600 grit.
They are awesome, but at $14 a set of rings, I can do them myself for a lot less and a little more effort. I go through the process in my blog, and somewhere on the forums here a few years ago. You can do thrust bearing plates just as easily with your finger tip. It's not very difficult to get great results.

Re: Bfast differential rebuild kits B4
I think Jeffery Racing Components makes a took that does just what we're talking about, and has a section in it for thrust bearing plates. A couple of different sizes for different diff rings.
Neat pieces.

Re: Bfast differential rebuild kits B4
But I thought they were using a different material on the diff rings? Because if it's just about sanding them (properly, or at least the best of what my hands can achieve in terms of not sanding them askew) to remove any high spots, I indeed do that myself on all my diff rings, first 600 then 1000 grit.
On the thrust washers, agree, it's a different story
I guess I'll have to try a set... But indeed at $37, that's the cost of a new complete stock diff
