GoolRC Brushless combo?

Post by ManMan »

Well, my GreenMachine2 finally burnt up so I guess I'll make the jump to brushless!

I was leaning towards a Turnigy Trackstar 13.5T combo, but I saw a GoolRC 3100kv on Amazon for half the price.

Any experiences with the brand? This is really just for backyard bashing with my XXT on 2S lipo

My other option (I think) would be to grab a 540 motor and hook up to my vintage Novak esc. Any brushed suggestions?

I've seen several of those, with numerous different names, all are essentially the same knockoffs with different names on the sticker. With the el-cheapo knockoffs, expect the fan to be loud & whiny, most likely a cheap bushing fan rather than a bearing fan. As with most made-in-China stuff, it'll probably do the trick, but you're never sure how long it'll last.

For the money it's perfect. Your car will haul some serious rear end too. If its just a runner don't sweat the fact that it's cheap. just slam it in and beat the snot out of it!

I got a cheap set similar to that on ebay and it is a bit loud but works very well. Much faster than the old stuff. Turn down the ESC when you get it!

Are capacitors required on the newer brushed motors, or are they built-in?

Which ebay brand did you end up going with?

I have that same brand and exact same gear in my OptiMutt car...very quiet, very smooth running electronics. Just had it out for a spin on the street last weekend, it runs great.

A buddy bought me a Gool esc/motor setup, seems to work just fine in one of my cars. Would I buy it myself over a more well known brand? I dunno, maybe, maybe not.

I was running all Castle stuff until recently, when I needed a smaller esc for a project, and bought a Hobbywing 60A sensorless esc to go with my Castle 3800kv motor. That works great too, and was cheap. I will add that the Castle seems to have better braking though, but the HW has smoother forward movement.

Well, I discovered the 1/24 scale Losi's and really want one... so I went the cheap route with a replacement brushed motor.

I ended up with a Electrifly S-600. It was reviewed well by the traxxas guys as a durable alternative to the Titans. Ground a flat spot on the output shaft, opened up my motor plate a little, water break-in and back in business!

It definitely has more punch than my GM2, time will tell on the durability.
