Hobbywing brushless combo

Post by Jimbo302 »

I asked about a brushless combo on this site recently and wanted to give back with a quick review and a thanks for all the advice.

I bought the hobbywing 60a EZRUN ESC with program card and brushless 9t/4300kv motor.

I currently have the setup in a T4 and it was a learning curve. I've flipped, flown, cartwheeled, and slid this thing. So far, I've broken the front arm mount, had a pinion gear back off and damage the spur, and scratched the new body as well as add damage to the beater body.

When I first put it together , I could ease up to a considerably fast speed and still flip it over backwards with judicious throttle application. It took a little tuning to keep the thing on the ground and preferably on all fours.

Once I got the gearing and programming in the zone I was able to get it up to speed and apply full throttle and it would squat and run straight.
While I had obviously limited top end, it was still remarkably fast. The tuneability is pretty impressive to an old timer like me, and a big plus if not the best part of the package.

All in all I would say this setup is good to go. My only complaint is if you try to move slowly from a dead stop, the throttle response is not instant. I believe this is because it is sensorless.

As a newb, it is the most capable and entertaining RC model I've experienced.
I suppose the point is, I'm having fun with it and wanted to share.

I threw a new spur and pinion in, slightly geared up, and a new vts slipper setup.
I turned the tune all the way up and took it out. There is no speed where the truck is stable enough to go full throttle for more than a few seconds.

My high speed runs were exciting with the front end light and dancing and the little motor screaming louder than it has a right to.

I can see how this setup could be fast in the right vehicle.

Looking good. I think these cheap brushless setups are really shaking up the industry.

Yeh, me and my friend have had good luck with the Hobbywing 60A stuff, so good that I bought a spare esc that I'm hoping to use in something. My ezrun esc replaced a Castle unit (because the castle was too big), but the Hobbywing also seems to run better.
