Better to lose batteries than the house or you or your families life, it's a precautionary action. I'm going to grab one soon, I just wish it didn't look like a Batman lunch box. lol

Yeah I guess it's how you look at it. I wouldn't lose my house or families life but would have to deal with some smoke damage I guess by storing them where I do.

That's a very good point. Quite honestly, I am so new that I am still figuring everything out.

My current thought is, the bat-safe is mostly for the risks generated during charging so while I charge (either 1 or 2), other batteries will be out of the case. I don't really plan on having more than 2 lipos at this time anyways.

I agree Todd, but I would rather lose a bunch of batts instead of a house.

I understand the idea of it but Like I said earlier in this thread. I store mine inside on a concrete floor next to a concrete wall...so no house loss for me Dave but would definitely have some smoke damage in my unfinished basement

Brings a dumb question up. If the box is rated for a lipo fire and holds say 5 or 6 lipo batterys is it rated for them all to go up at once? I've only stuck a screwdriver through them one at a time so I don't know what happens when you multiply the fire times 5 or 6. When you guys get around to it after getting one of these it might be something to look up in their literature to see if it says anything like that.

You brought up a good question so I dug around and this is what I found:

"There is space to get 4 6S 5000mAh batteries inside the box, however we have successfully tested 6S 10k mah fires inside the box." at 4.20 V charge state.

The above was on the kickstarter FAQ.

You're good. No worries. I'm using a Dynamite lipo fire-proof bag that is sealed by a huge velcro strip. That sucker is loud when you pull the strips apart, lol. My wife says "Won't you pull it already!" It's good for charging a couple of lipos at a time, but I need to extend my charger leads to be able to seal the bag fully during charging.

I have one of those monster hobbyking 1.6AH 4S pack for a heavy octo.
It's charged in a batt-bag on the tile floor if it's at my place, or in the batt-bag on cement if it's at my friends place.

Needless to say, I don't charge that thing unattended...

We did have a 3S pack guppy due to over discharge once, but it didn't pop.

Incidentally...and probably a good step forward for bat-safe, Hobbyking is now a re-seller:

I was about to post that. Well worth it now. Correct?

They want $40 plus to ship it though. Still worth it.

My guess is the HK listing is for much of the world rather than N. America. Try buying direct at the website. You can still do that @ $49 US. I believe I got free shipping. It's a little less organized in terms of shipping (no tracking, just pray). :) At least for me.

$98 total, US dollars I assume, from the Bat safe website shipped to me in Calgary.

HK is close, $42 shipping. If I add a few more items to the cart with HK, makes it a few dollars more.

SO this is worth buying for sure? I should anyway...

Ouch! Shipping is steep relative to actual cost of products. Even so, it's a bargain compared to some other products like the boxes from Progressive that don't proclaim to have any fire resistant properties...(at least not that I could find).
