what gauge wire for modern esc/motor

Post by lmw94002 »

What gauge wire is everyone currently using for brushless ESCs/Motors? Any specific suggestions?

I was looking to wire up some leads and realized my 25yo spools from my brushed days are pretty much gone. And then I thought, maybe I should be using different wire now...

they are typically 16 or 14 or 12AWG. In some cases, they are oddball and end up like 13 AWG. I suspect you would be safe with 12AWG for pretty much anything, although really high power stuff might use 10AWG on the battery leads.

Depending on your motor and car weight for me

I run 17.5 on a really light car so I run 16ga on my B6. My rere cars are a touch heavier and I run 13 on them.

I get all my wire from TQ, sensor cables too....fer real I should take up stock in that company.

Honestly with the power draw, and if you're not a worlds qualifier level of racer with 7827812627819 degrees of boost and timing and all that crap, 16ga is probably fine. I personally use it because its smaller and easier to hide but I'm one of those douchy wire nazi's too

I run all my cars on blinky with stock timing, mostly Tekin ESC's and E-co Power green 17.5's from A Main because I know I'm not gonna beat some wanna be pro racer...I'm there to have fun

I do run 12-13 on the batteries though
