Modern clay tire compound pattern in old 2.0 sizes?

Post by RCveteran »

Anyone whose been around here or enjoys racing vintage knows the countless threads and ways we adapt 2.2 rubber to our cars. I can't help but wonder would anyone be interested say a modern Barcode or whatever clay type tire yet in the old 2.0 or 1.9 sizes. I've only got so many old tires that aren't dry rotted I can cut spike down on.

I'd love the ability to keep the car looking closer to original yet be able to throw it on a modern track without going 2.2? Usually you can find old wheels for racing easy enough, if only we could glue on a modern 2.0 tire to that gorgeous old wheel.

We've got some pretty ingenious members here with connections? Is this a bigger endeavor than could be done for a small market? I stand ready to buy 10 pairs and will not charge for the million dollar idea :D

There's the old rubber band trick.
Find some rubber bands of appropriate width and "resting" circumference and glue them in around the wheel beads as many as you need to increase the diameter of the wheel, then glue your 2.2 tires to the whole shebang. Might work.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

You could cut and shut 2.2 tires.

Yeah I have used just about all the methods, I am just liking the idea of opening a bag, smelling some fresh new tires and gluing them on. Proline, AKA, Schumacher, are you listening?

I am familiar with those Schumacher spikes but not exactly what we run on the clay. Those do work just fine on indoor carpet offroad I have found though. Maybe they would work on clay and I just don't know, seems some almost slick tire like barcodes is the general clay formula.

This all stems from an urge lately to run the car closer to original spec as possible which but for these modern clay surfaces being so tire specific is the hardest missing link.

From the back of the cat manual. Not sure if any are of interest but maybe you hadn't seen them all

Well I'll be. I had no idea. So the vast majority of these are 2.0?

I think a good portion are, but you'd think they would be more clear on every one of them as not to mislead. Worth referencing and searching if you find one you like
