Greetings from San Diego!

Post by turbomkt »

I'm recently back into the hobby after too many years away. My first car was a chain drive Kyosho Optima I bought with hard earned lawn mowing money! Sadly, that car and the RC-10s I got from my uncle/cousins (it was nice when they owned an RC car store and track!) became gifts to the neighbors who had boys old enough to enjoy them.

Well, now my boys are old enough and I got back in it with a trio of used cars including an RC-10T4, RC18T2/B2, and RC-8Te. The 8's a roller for now and I'm trying to figure out the mesh on the 18 without stripping the front belt in minutes.

The T4 has been the solid performer with a Mamba Pro ESC and 7700 motor from Castle. I have been debating CVD upgrade as well as hex, so any opinions, recommendations, etc, are appreciated.

Welcome!
What part of San Diego? I'm from Spring Valley originally, living in Orange County now.

I'm in Santee now, but grew up in the LA area so I'm a true SoCal guy.

Welcome, great bunch here, you should be very happy with any answers to the questions that you will have, because there are always questions...like why, why am I buying a 14th RC10, and why are my sentences running on so long lol.

Yeah, I saw your "First RC10T" thread. My goal is to simply have enough cars running for my three boys and me to bash around. Having had two original RC10s, they have a special place in my heart. Then again, I like the idea that a Slash is probably more survivable, so I'm the only one running the T4 for more than a few minutes :)

I was in the same bout years ago. Back in the day I had 2 RC10s, and just... huh, 7-8 years ago now lol, I got back into it. I now have 20 cars and counting and ALL I wanted is to do some research to get one of them as a runner and one to sit on a shelf.

Lesson learned on my end, and it was a slow and long learning one, run modern day cars. Unless that is, you don't want to be competitive, then run whatever is not scratched, unless you really want to lol.

I have a few too many hobbies to get in that deep. Oh, and 4 kids that are in two sports each plus Scouting.

HA, ya got me there. I've been married 10 or something years, but with the same woman 20 something years and still no kids so I had to continue being a kid. Although I wish it were different for me, I make the best of it. I look forforward to your builds.

I've paid more for less. It's a fair price in my opinion, but see if he'll take less lol.

We'll see. I may try to wait him out since his comments say the price is firm. The benefit of not really being in the market, but willing to buy for the right deal. :)

I help my wife cover the con. So, I'm usually taking pictures. My favorite are the cosplayers. The evenings are full of open bar parties. Yay!

BTW, autocorrect changed cosplayers to displayers.
