I'm trying to restore the body on a 1980's bruiser. Very good shape except for 3 different layers of paint. What's the best way to remove it. Sanding is way to slow.

I've herd of the brake fluid trick but does it need to be submerged or can you just wipe it on? Would take at least a 5 gallon pail to sink that body and that is just way to pricy here....

What about super clean, how does it work?

No one thing does the trick every time. I've had best results using yellow can easy off oven cleaner. Brake fluid works but you need a lot of it to totally submerge the part you want stripped. It takes a couple of weeks to a month to get everything off. Then you have to do something with the contaminated fluid afterwards.

I have had some luck with Purple Power degreaser (think it is like Super Clean)

I´ve good experience with brake fluid.
I get up early Saturday, brush the bodyshell with brake fluid and leave it in the sun.
Three hours later I brush it over again - this goes on the whole day.

Up early Sunday morning and brush it over again, then off to church, after church and choir practice I brush it again. Now it´s Sunday afternoon and I take the bodyshell to the (hobby) highpressure washer.
Everything washes of and after a soap wash, it´s ready to be painted.

I think the sun part is important (not just for the planets´survival) I´m not sure if the church and choir helps.

If the paint doesn´t strip after the first couple of days, just continue, eventualy it´ll strip.

I too use the yellow can Easy Off oven cleaner but it only takes a day or two for me. I first put the body in a plastic bag, and spray it with a generous helping of Easy Off. I then put it in the garage or outside in direct sunlight for a few hours, heat seems to help. Then I rub the body down while it's inside the bag from outside the bag with my fingers. Next I rinse it off real good and try to coax the loosening paint off by hand. Repeat a few times and the paint will be off no problem. Use a mask and plastic gloves. 2 pair if they're thin. Easy Off is toxic.

A friend of mine got a deep rubbermaid tray and dumped brake fluid in it. He put his bruiser body on it's side and let it soak for a while, then flipped it. Eventually it was a bare body.

All depends on type paint was used but easy off yellow can is best.Hopefully the body hasnt been painted multiple times if only painted once it should be a hour or two to remove it.Spray it let sit use rag an gloves an wipe loose paint off then respray an repeat till all off.DON
