Choosing an airbrush

Post by 85Edinger »

Hello all,
I haven't been on here much lately. I think it was Scr8p who said real cars would take over, and he was right.
I'm looking to buy an airbrush. In the near future I expect to paint a few r/c bodies, a model car, and a car (not full repaint, just some bodywork.)
Can I get one airbrush to all those tasks effectively? I have access to my Dad's 135psi air compressor.
Thanks in advance.
. . . you have Associated Green Slime for brains. And not even new Green Slime, but old gooped out Green Slime.

easy way ... no

even small auto touch up guns spray more than my largest tip on my r/c airbrushes

ive got 6-7 airbrushes right now so i can paint eveything from a full size car to a small model

ive got a small 1/3 hp 20 gal for small jobs and use a larger 10hp tripple head comprerser of painting a car

just rember to buy an airbrush that is well built and you can get replacement parts for

I have a Badger 155 dual action brush. Seems to work well - but I'm still figuring out the whole airbrushing thing myself! I was like you - wanted one solution for everything. Or at least one compressor for everything.

Came to the conclusion that its just not very feasible or practical.

I also found that the dual action, while its pretty cool, is a bit more challenging than a single action. Think of a single action like the nozzle on a spray can - on and off pretty much. Dual action you can vary the amount of paint coming out. Great for detail work - but harder to learn on.

Also, there are many different tips you can use, fine, med and large.

One thing that I also learned just recently (despite what the first guy told me at a LHS), is that you only need to thin Faskolor about 10% (which I had figured out on my own by trial and error).

Anyways, I can see how this is something that will take on a life of its own, but I would talk to some guys that you know who are already using one and just mimic what they do and what they have to get started.
