Worlds box art decal placement

Post by bully »

How are you doing the REEDY modifieds decal on the scoop of the turbo mirage body? For a shelfer I am thinking you can get away with a little lift of the decal around the rear of scoop, but for a runner the decal would only last one day before it was full of dust and look terrible.. Anyway Have to get some pics of the one I did recently,It took two goes before I was happy with it.. Any tips from you all would be great...Thanks

I found that with a few minor strategic cuts with an Xacto knife and a heat gun, you can conform to the curves and bends. I also use a small section of used decal backing to cover sections of the decal that I don't want to stick down. I will place the exposed section perfectly and then remove the backing to conform the remaining section of the decal. Another benefit for using a small section of backing is no finger prints left in the glue. Sorry, this is the best I can word with out pictures. If there are any wrinkles, I use heat gun and a dull tool to press them out. If there is still a wrinkle, I will slit it with Xacto knife and press it out. For air bubbles I would prick with a pin and press most or all the air out and then heat gun again. Placing decals suck for curves and corners!

This has been on the body for over a year, raced, and still looks pretty good. Up close you can see where it has wrinkled slightly from stress over time (I'm fussy)

I cut the RE and the Y off, placed the ED and Modifieds on straight with a few relief cuts. Then I put the remaining letters on straight. If I did it again I would trim the letters closer.

That was how I did one but ended up with a split thru the I in modifieds... Cut the RE but didn't cut the Y maybe that is why I had a split in mine.. Thanks fellas.. Rod mate, I will try that heat method.. Wonder if the reedy decal is available any other way, otherwise gonna be up for a lot of worlds decal sheets  I noticed on the original it's placed further down with proline across the top wonder if that makes it easier or not... Waiting on some more wc decal sheets now.

You may or may not be able to tell in the pic but I undercut the D in REEDY to the d in Modifieds, and under cut the E to the M. I used a heat gun to contour the sticker.

I'm my countless bodies over the years, I've also had to do things like this, in order to get things to line up, or lay flat. Usually it's just a nick in the sticker with an x-acto knife to get things to go around a corner, but I've had difficult ones as well.
