Having nothing better to do last year and a 3S - 2000mah lipo with a DOA cell kicking around I decided to hack it up into a 2S and shove it in my RC10L for kicks.
It ran great with the old Novak Rooster ESC and when it got down to the voltage limit the car was almost not moving anyway.

I couldn't top it out as is.. a Pan with no body on 2s lipo with a hot motor. It would spin out if you tried for full throttle..
Hmm I have the Heading hold gyro.. Perhaps I'll break out the pan again soon.

Hindsight - should have researched it first. The other one I have had temperature trouble even while using NIMHs, so not a huge surprise, but still irritating. I figured just for setup and making sure everything worked, a lipo would work fine since none of my NiCds nor NIMHs were charged. Nope. Live and learn.

Are there any fairly inexpensive brushed ESCs that would be recommended for use with lipos? Also, will MSCs handle lipos? I run MSCs in a few vehicles and even used the stock one in my RC10 for a little while last summer, just for old time's sake. I figure the resistors would probably get hot enough to spontaneously combust then start a lipo fire.
Hobbycity have a cheap Brushed ESC, About A$12, 45A. So far mine has worked faultlessly (with lipos) - just fun running, not comp or pulling huge amps obviously. I'm going to order a couple more at that price.
I think the cutout voltage is set for lipos. But check yourself. I use a 3 dollar low voltage alarm too.

I scored a few lipo alarms from a member here, so I'm not too worried about the batteries. My concern was more the ESC. I've had too much practice burning them up over the years. I'll check out those inexpensive ESCs you mention. For the time being, I found a couple XL-5s on eBay for a descent deal. Even got the awesome Titan 12T motors, too! Actually, I was glad to get them. They are currently the best, legal motors for my LHS's SCT class...

I used to use lipos with by brushed gear in Touring cars and never had a problem, as most brushed escs could do 7 or 8 cells packs, which is about 8.4 volts anyways
