MG Brown Dot, anyone??
Well, when I first started racing, the MG Brown Dot was the best standard 27 turn motor around, as quick as a lot of the modified boys.
Does anyone else remember these bad boys? I've done a google search, came up with nothing I think they changed them for the orange dot a few years later. God I wish I could go back to those days.

Re: MG Brown Dot, anyone??
I remember that far back, I used to run MG motors for a while, although I thought the different colours were for different winds.
Also as I used to be on a budget I ended up buying the rotors straight off MG and running them in my Reedy Mr series cans, went very well
I was talking about the old days with someone at club last week and he mentioned the 'stock' motors that the team drivers used to get - they were told never to take the motor apart!

Re: MG Brown Dot, anyone??
Bitd I used to run my Fox with an MG Red Dot + motor. This motor was a 19 turn double and used to run very well - it easily kept my friend's Bigwig at bay which was powered by a technigold at the time. I remember that I bought it from a hobby store in Hampshire or Wiltshire, UK - SRM Racing. I wanted to get the MG fully modified motor but as I was only 11 at the time they persuaded my parents that I wouldn't be able to handle the power going straight from the Mabuchi 540 to a fully modified MG. So I ended up with the red dot +. A very good motor but I continue to be on the look out for a fully modified MG motor but they are incredible rare. After a few years of searching, I think I have only seen one (maybe two) MG motors come up for sale....

Re: MG Brown Dot, anyone??
Thanks fellas. I'd love to get hold of a brown dot, it seems they've all disappeared off the planet! There must be some, somewhere, even a picture!
CNA, yeah I remember those red dots, the standard and modified versions. And the most expensive ones were Magnums, I think.

Old thread resurrection....I was an MG team driver bitd.... They do exist, I have examples of every type they made.
I started with a Brown Dot in '88 and went right through until around '93 with their full range of stock motors, red dots, yellow, and then on to the pinks. MG Exterminator was a modified although I can't recall the wind anymore. I had a lot of success with them - very fast. 3rd overall in the 4wd RRC Series in '91.

Re: MG Brown Dot, anyone??
Here we go, bit of a close-up. I think the progression went from the Brown Dot on to the Red Dots (white label first, then the silver can with the blue label) and then on to the pink cans at the end. I have just found out they also did an Orange Dot in '89 so please if anybody has one I would be very interested in it.
All of these shown were hand-selected 'team MG' motors, as I was driving for them at the time. Quick!!!

Re: MG Brown Dot, anyone??
Never heard of them, but there were so many local motor-relabelers bitd... what were they based on, looks like Sagami?
Love the brand logo, though! That was long before people became obsessive with IP!
(and MG might have had bigger fishes to fry at that time too)

Re: MG Brown Dot, anyone??
They were very popular over in the UK. Lots of guys were sponsored by them and they ran regular ads in the UK mags. I have got examples with early Kyosho, Yokomo, AYK, Epic and HPI stamped endbells. I also have an expetimental flat-sided prototype can as well.

Re: MG Brown Dot, anyone??
A few more modified MG motors, Exterminators and a magnum. Some are hand-engraved by Mick 'MG' Goddard himself. One is a special order 8Single!
There are a pair of 11 Doubles in here too, which are the highest revving motors I have ever seen on our dyno.
And here is a more complete line up than posted previously, with some dayglow Exterminator modifieds to the right.
