Tekin BC112C questions

Post by sandbar782 »

I have a tekin bc112c with old h27 software. I picked up a new NiMH battery and have been searching the web for charging tips. My understanding is that I need h30 or greater software to charge. Is this true? Can my charger be upgraded? Who does it and for about how much?

What's a decent substitute charger if I'm beat on this?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

not a bad piece for an AC/DC charger. Had one bitd, it usually runs weak towards the end of the charge due to the transformer heating up, but not as bad as others.

I remember the H30-ish update thing... Big deal bitd, frankly I would not bother using this charger anymore, esp. on "generic" nimh (I assume you are using generic nimh as none of the top-labelers do them at all anymore). Too risky imho, this started life as a ni-cd focused charger, then it was upgraded for "newer" batts 15y.a., not sure about how adapted the delta peak detection is to modern batts anymore. People think Lipo's are bad when they are overcharged, but everyone's forgotten how nastily an NiMH can blow...

Any modern $29 charger and $29 power supply from one of the big online retailers is a much better choice.

And don't get me started about nimh's in 2016 ;)

So I can use the tekin charger for NiMh cells? Everything I've read says I need then H30 software or later and my charger only has H27. Not sure about this and I definately do twang to cause any fires.

I was thinking of just purchasing a SKYRC iMAX B6AC V2. Looks like a great all around charger that has all the versatility I'll ever need.

tamiyadan - thank you for all the information. Wow, very informative. I think I will give it a try i.e.. turn off power flex and just charge the pack. Also to answer your question the pack is a main battery for an old RC10B3 that I'm trying to get my daughter interested in. We will just be driving it in the neighborhood. Again, thanks for all your incite. Huge help!

well remember r/c racing packs were charged and used with full knowledge you needed to get max performance out of them at the cost of life expectancy. you charged them at 5-10 amps well over the recommended limit lol. you pushed them and buzzed them all in the effort to raise the voltage .025volts per cell LOL

remember how awesome it always was with the first charge and run with a new battery pack verse about a week later when you felt something was missing...

well there is a huge measurable difference in performance of the battery pack in the first 5 charge cycles then everything drops and it stays kind of flat for a little while and then a huge drop off occurs, at that point your main battery becomes the practice pack then it cycles to the backyard basher and into the trash. that cycle happened very quickly.

the cycle went,, Main battery, Qualifier pack, practice pack, basher pack, trash. (give or take 4 weeks lol)
I tried to forget this period. Unfortunately I know all you're saying, and I remember vividly (and so does my wallet!!!)

I miss truing comms - I do it once in a while just for kicks.

I certainly don't miss NiXX technology. Lipo has transformed the hobby!

I always charged mine at 5 amps.

If you were racing a quick re-peak at 7 amps right before the race would give you a holeshot, just keep an eye on battery temp while doing this.
