Battery Performance Database

Post by makoman1860 »

Hi All!
I am putting together a database of the recorded performance of the older Nicd batteries and would like your help. Maybe the easiest thing would be to collect pictures of the matching labels and note what cell type it is, and any details. Ive been helping out with some vintage projects and we would really like to replicate the performance of the original battery packs of the 80's and 90's. I plan to just put all the data in a spreadsheet and then share that as a master list so to speak. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hey Dan,
Hmmm yes I did not think of the fraud end of things. What I am really looking at matching right now is the 1200SCR cells. I have my data from 1400 SCRs but no 1200s. I have a few industrial connections and found that there are actually near 30 different Sub-C nicads made today in Korea, Japan and China. Most are used for military/aerospace due to the unmatched cycle life. Im getting samples of many of them in hopes some would be fairly close to the older ones.

Hey Guys,
I lucked out and found an article in an old magazine where the editors used a CE turbomatcher and took a bunch of data. Since it was independent I am inclined to trust it. Thanks all!!!

Hey Dan,
This article was specific to 1200 SCR cells, and had to do with Mexico cells vs Japan cells. Charge was 5A, Discharge was both 10A and 20A (Article is 1989). No reflex and one hour between cycles with the data taken on all. What was interesting is that the fellow doing the article mentioned sorting cells by all the normal methods, plus the deviation from first to last cycle. Some cells performed exactly the same through all 4 cycles, some got better with cycle count. He would only use those that had low variation cycle to cycle. I guess that makes sense and would probably keep the packs balanced longer. For fun I have been picking up some of the cheap no-name cells and seeing how they perform. In a box of 10, 2 will go thermo, 4 will be restrictive duds, 3 will be Ok'ish, and one will be a low resistance rock star. I dont remember the cells of the late 90's being that bad, maybe my memory is shot haha.
