Thanks for that, yes i recal some issues and why Tekin merged with them to build the 410k as he saw its potential. Im so chuffed to have known him & be helped by him when the 410k came out. Still these galaxy escs are a part of the history of Tekin

Some correcting and aditional notes. Yes the Purge and the 410K are more or less the same because Kevin Orton hired the designer of that ESC. The GM ESC was introduced as Hel3000 in the beginning around half a year after the Tekin. Also there were smaller versions known as the 2000 and 1000. Using a keyboard was the only common detail for the Purge/Tekin and the Hel/GM ESCs, but software and functions were very different. The Purge design could use two or three different current limiter settings at a certain timeframe during a race, which was not found at any other ESC before.
The Hel design used two independent current limiters for start and race mode but also a very advanced current limiter technology which was not found at the Purge. Indeed the Hel 3000 was the first ESC using turbo and delay settings for the current limiter, with quite unlimited setting options. I found these functions even did work for brake, so you could program a brake setting what works close to anti-locking device. Overall this technology was extending runtime over other ESCs so this one was the ESC to use for onroad racing. I remember there was a 1/12 worlds where about everybody was running this ESC.
Regarding offroad I don't know for the USA but in Europe the Hel/GM ESC was popular as well, even when the advantage might have been not that much as in onroad.
I personally never used a Purge or 410K in racing so don't know if they did run that hot but I used several of the Hel ESCs and they never went more hot than other ESC.
Galaxy and Super Galaxy were the latest versions of the original Hel3000 ESC, not the Tekin.
In 1995/1996 the Galaxy series was replaced by the smaller GM Pro/Apollo series which was using basically the same functions but programming without the keyboard was a nightmare. Also this was a more punchy/less powersaving design.

Yes these ESCs could shut down by static or even hitting a track barrier, this was a problem indeed. For the Hel3000 we did a mod to the PCB, disabled the remote shut down and added a switch so the ESC couldn´t shut down on it´s own.
Programming for more runtime affected punch of course, also the Hel3000 never was a really punchy ESC. But too much punch just lowers runtime and doesn't help with driveability.
Programming of power curves at the transmitter isn´t the same as programming advanced power functions at the ESC. But those advanced functions as introduced with the Hel3000 could still be found today at brushless ESCs. Well at least at some real good ones.

I have a 410K because I collect old ESCs for the museum. My personal experience in racing is just for other Tekin ESC as the 411 or 412 series and the awesome G9, I never used the 410K for racing. But I used the Hel3000 type ESCs for some years and never had any problem beside the initial shut down issue which was fixed at some point. Maybe there was a design flaw with the 410K or the FET transistors were not that great but hiding the FEts below the keyboard isn´t the best idea even when an alumium housing was used.
The Hel/GM type ESCs were a better design in this area where the FETs could receive airflow as any traditional design ESC. This might be the main difference because there were no thermal issues. I also know those ESCs got a special technical detail what improved voltage drop and thermal load. This was typical for several European made ESCs but not really found the same on American made ESC, beside the Victor ESC which went a similar road to a certain degree.

I used a 410k for ten years, won a shed load of regionals, made the top ten in the uk and it kept going strong. Only issue was if you touched the keypad after a race it damaged the esc so just unplugged the battery and it never failed me.

Anyway this is what im resoldering with new wires, tbh it looks brand new and am quite stunned
