I would like a 2 gear small tranny (ala MIP 4-10 style) for those of us brave enough to make our own 4wd cars from any 2wd car.

definatly delrin tranny cases how about a rear bulkhead like one of these in delrin and possibly incorperate some kind of removable battery box aera for mid motor oval use or standard buggy use to please both crowds.

Just out of curiosity, is Delrin wanted due to weight, colour, etc. or because people think it will be cheaper? I notice this a lot of places-Not to bum anyone out, and while I'm not trying to be the Wal-Mart of parts, they cost what they cost and material has basically nothing to do with it.
Again, just to clarify, let's say I spend 25 CAD and machine hours mapping a Stealth case with my probe, cutting a proto or 2, and touching it up- This requires setting up, special fixtures usually, loading tools, etc. Now I have 1 perfect Stealth case.
Two thoughts at this point: One, if you are having a onesey or twosey part custom made, I must recoup my time on only a couple parts, which avarages $75 an hour: You see why I can't do really low number, personal custom parts- This part could cost you 2 grand, as it's basically prototyping, which is the most expensive machining there is (That's why all the really bad custom rigs are usually built by machinists!) Point 2, now let's say I make 50 of these, and they take 30 min. each - I can spread my costs over all those units, making them fairly affordable, but the cost per unit in Aluminum is say $3 & the cost per unit in Delrin is $2.00 (Delrin ain't cheap, either.) You see where at a price of, say, $45 per unit, there is no real savings because the expensive part is my machine, machine time, and years of schooling to learn how to deign, draw, toolpath, & proto the parts, not the material.
I mention this just to educate those who don't know how this business works, which can't hurt, and to dispell any ideas that plastic will be way less money- This may be true in molding, where parts are pennies each AFTER you invest several thousand in molds & tooling- There is no cheap way to make good parts!
All in all, my pricing is pretty fair on relatively small batches, as I have very low overhead & do everything myself, so don't think this post is priming you to go broke for parts: But the reality is, my shop & schooling cost almost $150 thousand and took 5 years to master. The good news is I'll still be around, and if you ever get anything you don't think was fairly priced for what you get, I'll buy it back, seriously. So put some thought into what should be Delrin & why, as there are already plenty of plastic parts out there, considering! Sorry for the long post Mates, Chris REC

maybe I am naive, isnt delrin lighter than aluminum? that is my thought on the material difference...us uber anal racers trying to shave every last gram of weight.

I think what Chris is saying, you can correct me if I am wrong Chris, is that the materials cost is not what makes the parts expensive but its the time it takes to design and produce them.
A skilled craftmans time is ALWAYS more valuable than the materials he uses.
An oversimplification perhaps but true in most cases.

delrin or nylon in my mind is being requested because it is most like the original parts, ie, molded nylon. Aluminum is nice but heavier and not optimum for certain applications. Delrin in white is nice and bright and machines more easily than nylon and is the 'standard' plastic an RC modeler might hear about in magazines and forums.

The delrin seems pretty tough too. Whatever the RPM worlds parts are made from, that would be best IMO. I agree that the rear bulkheads, rear mounts, and Tecna style wheels are at the top of the best seller list. HG made some pretty cool pieces for the RC10 and others. Here is a pic of their version of the rear arm mounts. Could you do something like this?

Oh, and great to have your skills here on the forums! Me personally, I'd love to see these wheels made. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=26345 They are sweet, because they can use the newer style tires.
