ReRe steering bellcrank bearings

Post by stuey »

Hi everyone. I have mostly built my Worlds car, although I have a bad gearbox layshaft. I also notice that the steering bellcranks are very stiff. Can I ease them, of if ballraces are best what size do I need? I couldn't find a search box so please excuse me if it's been asked before :D

they should be 3/8" x 1/4" flanged bearings. You can work the bushings with some sandpaper or similar to get them to free up or convert to bearings. Or, you could just run it and they will likely free up from some usage.

After you cut the threads in the posts it usually frees up. I used a tap and it worked great. I'm not a huge fan of bearings in the steering from a "why" standpoint haha

I threaded the mount/posts, put them in my drill press and polished them up (400 grit wet/dry paper), then used the stock bushings that I had also polished a bit with 800 grit and my finger (basically). They are smooth and free.

I originally wanted to get the bearings for the bellcranks but realized that the servos now have tons of torque and speed compared to the old days. Even an inexpensive one should have more than enough snot to turn undriven, tiny and light wheels. I went with a Savox SC-0253MG that hopefully should be able to take a hit or 2 without exploding. No need to get a expensive high torque titanium gear like I have in my crawlers.

Of course when I get bored eventually and get the Jconcepts cranks I won't be using bushings in there but...
When in doubt, throttle out. It may not help the situation but it will end the suspense
