Started the build finally as the bearings came saturday. But then started thinking... Do I really want stock shock towers? Looking at all the other RC10s and parts I got, I really like the carbon weave look of CarbonWorks towers. And one car has towers I really like... but I also like the idea of the newer wing mounts.

Definitely like the black on black so far:

If you use the tower from Carbon Works http://rccarbonworks.com/store/team-associated/RC10-Gold-Pan?product_id=210 I think there are two different thickness of cf options (I have the 2mm) the Kyosho ZX-5 wing mounts http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kyosho-ZX-5-bump-and-wing-stay-LA213-/322493352519?hash=item4b161a0a47:g:HzAAAOSwv9hW6bac are a direct bolt on.

I have a few parts from Carbon Works, really nice stuff.

Yeah, I have of CarbonWorks' DS towers. :) I do really like the look of the weave. Only downside is they can be a bit pricey. I was lucky to snag some of the stuff via auction. Trying to figure out what towers are on the car I got from someone else that look great. Stock replacement but it has "connected" top of the front tower and seemed to be thicker than stock.

You can get a deal on CW stuff on eBay sometimes. I got a CF trailing arm chassis for a good price with "make offer".

I picked up their carbon scrap bag. Super deal and you never know what you can make from it.

First I heard about the Shining Star Chassis, interesting. I do like the production photos but surprised they made so many since the RC10 worlds has slowed right down.

Cool nonetheless !

Shock tower options... Need to figure out which type I want...
I found a CarbonWorks 3MM stock worlds tower
CW_RearTower.JPG
Been so long since I CA'd a tower... looks pretty good.

But I also have a set of these towers ordered:

Rear:

I do think I've settled on a tire/wheel combo for the build until it's time to hit the track...

The tires look like Proline DIrt Hawg's. What are the part numbers? What wheels? I like them a lot... need those numbers too!

My bad, should have put that info in there... Yes, Proline Dirt Hawgs on the 2.2 DE Racing Borrergo Wheels (Part# DER-BB-AFB / DER-BB-ARB). Really like that style of wheel, I have white ones on my FT SC10.2.

Thanks man. I tracked down the wheels easy but a bit confused on the Dirt Hawgs... so many to choose from!

*edit*

OK, I got it from your picture, 1073 fronts, 1071 rears.

Updated the build parts list initial post...

Really hoping my towers get here so I can make progress over the long weekend. Also need to make progress on my anodizing work for others so I can reconfigure to anodize stuff for this build.

you are going to run into some trouble with the borrego wheels and the 'normal' rc10 rear suspension. Those wheels are designed for B4 and later correct? they have a different offset compared to the world car suspension, by about .400" on each side. if you don't have interference issues, it will be narrow. the quickest way to avoid problems is to use the re-re rear wheels. otherwise, there a bunch of options for rear hubs/arms/cvd setup to use b4 wheels on rc10. search on 'woin' here for pages of information.

I think on the front you are OK, the worlds re-re had the longer axles to utilize the b4 style front wheel offset.

btw, 'woin' stands for 'what's old is new'

Hrm... I was a little concerned if the offset might be different. We'll see how we fit compared to stock. Guess I could get white wheels and dye them black. :)

I test fit the DE Borrego wheels and they are right on the edge of rubbing the hub carrier and rear shock. I could change the shock location to resolve that and possibly sand down the inner wheel edge / hub carrier to make sure I don't rub. Fine for bashing, but looks like I'll need some regular white wheels to dye black for racing.

Anyone know alternatives to the stock 2.2 AE wheels ?

My shock towers should arrive today so I can get building again...

for the rc10 with stock suspension, you are looking at the worlds re-re wheels as your easiest/best solution.

traxxas 1/16 e-revo wheels I believe also work.

jcracing(UK) has 5 spokes that fit the 1/4" axle.

I think there is an ofna wheel that works, but it's been a while I would have track that down.

some of the duratrax wheels work, but are either discontinued or fragile.

other options out there require some home work to fit properly.

if you go with the b4 hubs, and b44 CVD's, or WOIN geometry, you can use any b4 style wheels.
