Vintage RC10T Build - conversion to BL

Post by evownsu »

Hi everyone....i am new to this board and I am so glad i found it. A little background...currently my boys and i have 2 rc trucks...revo 3.3 (mine  ) and a slash 4 x4 that i have upgraded beyond belief running 3s lipo. anyways, my boys love that slash....and to be honest so do i. when i first bought that revo i didnt know how good electric was these days..wich i would have bought the erevo instead.

anyways...on to the build. My 9 year old found my old RC10T that I was given to for xmas about 20 years ago. It currently has no motor and no controller...however my kid is obsessed with me putting a brushless in it. so after reading a lot of information on these forums...this is what i think i am going to do...and please add if i am forgetting something....

and all the parts needed for a b3t3 slipper clutch.

Attached are the pics...do you think that futaba servo will work with that receiver?

thanks for all your help everyone...its greatly appreciated.

also, if i wanted to upgraded to RPM parts and different shocks...etc...where is the best place to purchase?

Welcome to the forum.

You should have no problem using a futaba servo with that radio. I am using an old S148 with my TowerHobbies 2.4G radio.

Just a word of caution, this site is addictive and will cause you to spend large amounts of cash on RC-10s. :-)

yeah, should be fine- the RPM parts are avail at Tower ( or a local hobbyshop ) and those shocks are just fine-

I'd agree this forum is very addictive once you get going!
I've got the B4/T4 slipper assembly on my team car and RC10T readily available and perfect for brushless :D

will the b4/t4 slipper set up work on a stealth trans from the rc10t truck? Just got a castle creations 5700kv and the old slipper just slips even when tightened. whats all needed for the conversion if it can be converted?

The top shaft in a B4 is interchangeable with the 2.25 stealth, but it will not work in the RPM transmission. I heard you can press the gear off, but I have not done that. Maybe someone else here can add more detail.

just bought the rpm trans conversion, but i still have the old stealth which is a 2.25 ratio. so with some luck, all might work and the slipper will hold up.

my bad, had the wrong springs in the wrong places, it's been awhile since i torn into the old 10t. everythings holding up like a champ. thought it was fast with the sonic s that i had in it. with the castle creation 5700kv, insane, lots of fun.

I have been looking at this combo too - did you go with the Sidewinder or the Mamba setup? Also, do you find the power controllable, enough torque? I have been debating between 4600 and 5700 for my RC10T restoration, and curious what you have found.

My son has a 4600 in his T4 and it is plenty of power on dirt. I have the 5700 and I can hardly ever use it all. The two are a dead heat on our dirt track but he can run longer. The RC10T is also heavier so I would use the 4600 for the greater torque. I have heard the neu-castle motors have even better torque.

i spoke with team associated and they stated that the old style stealth tranny is good about up to 4900kv

after running this weekend, thats about all the truck can handle. After 2 runs on a 2s the tires that you see above are now completely bald....haha

time for a good set of street and dirt tires.

This thing is really fun. It was nice to see it running again after about 20 years sitting in the garage.

i'm running the 5700kv sv2. Real happy with castle creations set up. On the other hand, the 5700kv is a little much. The slipper never stops slipping on pavment. It catches up on soft dirt. Most likely going with a b4/t4 trans or maybe a drill and a couple of roll pins. I know thats a no no, but i don't race on tracks, it's just a backyard basher. There is plenty of torque with the 2.65 conversion from RPM and a 87 spur and a 17 pinion. Over all, i'm happy with it, slipping slipper and all.
