McMaster Carr goodies

Post by Brandon G »

Somebody asked a while back about part #'s associated with bulk items that might be used on R/C stuff from McMaster. Well, I got bored at work, so here goes...

Nylon wing nuts (natural):
4-40 94924A005
8-32 94924A009
10-32 94924A012

G10 FR4 Garolite (black) 1/8" X12" X12" 85345K12

Nylon Locking nuts (natural) like the ones on the Losi axles and upper shock mounts:
4-40 94909A005
6-32 94909A007
8-32 94909A009
10-32 94909A022

1/8" shaft e clips 98407A116

Silicone O-rings -006 9396K11

.1260" Straight reamer 3087A31

1/4" diameter anodized aluminum rod 12" 6750K13

Most of the small fasteners are 100 ct, but all prices are reasonable. The most expensive thing on the list is the G10 sheet at $12.50. I did not put any prices on here cause the book I was looking at is a few years old. I'm sure everything has gone up some. Their Phone # is 404-346-7000. Hope this helps at least one person out.

And no I dont work for them either.

That is some very useful info, thanks. :)

The o-rings are the shock seals?

Also smallparts.com has a lot of hard to find stuff, frequently in a variety of materials. Although I think it tends to be more expensive.

the mcmaster.com online system is great, easy to find things and it has a ton of parts to look through.

dont forget about the # 90145A417 1/16x3/8" steel dowel pins, they work perfectly for drive pins on 3/16 axles and are signifigantly cheaper, ($8.08for 100) than the "factory team" packaged pins($4 for 4  )
There are other sizes of dowels, as well as spring/roll type pins. These can be used for the trans top shaft, and the 1/4" axles, but I forget all the specifics. I'll look into it when I have the time and list the part#'s.

They also have 4-40 socket head cap screws with drilled heads for the battery cups, and loose ball bearings. The balls may not be as high quality as the "carbide" variety racers use, but for rebuilding a shelfer, they get the job done for cheap.

If anyone knows the size for the shock top seals that would be great to know.

Great stuff; thanks! I always wanted to do that, but never took the time.

Yes, the o-rings are the shock seals. I've been using my pk of 100 for about 15 years now :D .

McMaster has regular grade diff balls, a pack of 100 for around $5. Search “bearing balls”. They have lots of other materials, but their Carbide and Ceramics are pricey.

Dug this thread to thank Giles, and I found something really cool to add to it:

These set screws have soft tips, and they actually grip really well. For my old builds that use the aluminum collars on anodized shocks, these are perfect for eliminating those little zits all over your vintage shocks (the ones that sit on the shelf and are supposed to look pretty).

The M-3 fits my CRP collars : 94095A020 Metric Nylon Tip Alloy Steel Socket Set Screw, packs of 5
$7.44 for a pack of 5 ain't cheep, but neither are vintage shocks.

Is jwscab correct? If he is, the top seals are #9262K105 for buna-n. Has anybody used these who can verify they work?
. . . you have Associated Green Slime for brains. And not even new Green Slime, but old gooped out Green Slime.

They may have changed them, the ones I just got (9262k105) are a very loose fit and when screwing the cap on are very hard to keep from pinching. They may work but I haven't tried them with oil yet- they seem a tad thinner in diameter but I haven't measured them yet

Hi Guys,

Jwscab is correct!

Shock cap seals, 10mm x 12mm x 1mm o-rings work perfect.

Cheers, Dave.

Did you check the part number on yours? The ones I received today are not a great fit...might be ok in a pinch
