My 959's

Post by Stuntmanmike1975 »

Ever since I was a kid I wanted one of these. My older brother got one for Xmas back in 86 or 87 & I was in awe at the time. Maybe because he wasn't into RC cars as I was or maybe because it was just so cool & complex at the time...I don't know?
I had a Fast Attack vehicle then at 11 years old, the 959 was just so different, so beyond me that I knew I was just too young to respect it and really care for it back then.

I kind of forgot about it for a long time until we came across the box of my brothers car in my mom's attic one afternoon. The car was long gone, sold to fund his "P.K. Ripper" way back then but the box art brought back all the magic and I knew I had to build one... or three...

The middle car is my favorite & more a recent project that I'm almost done with. I used a lot of 3d parts & rebuilt everything completely. An ultrasonic cleaner is indispensable when restoring old RC cars. Also I actually bought a very rough Celica GR. b and used all the better option parts from it like the front sway bar, Gear Diff and better drive shaft then a set of ceramic bearings to replace the bushings throughout.

The result, I think speaks for itself. This car runs like a clock and is surprisingly quick with the Technigold motor period correct Futaba ESC and a 2s lipo, obviously I did away with the MSC on this one. The other two are completely original complete with MSC's.

Thanks man, they're my favorite as well. Over engineered, quirky little cars that have no equals going forward through time. I don't think they'll ever re-release them but who knows? I have over a hundred rc cars most newer kits but something about these facinates me.
