Sounds cool, I'm just happy not to be the back marker and usually am not but I haven't won a race since 1991. And that was a B main with four cars two of which broke It was a YZ-10, my batteries dumped and I could probably walk faster than the car but that darn trophy said 1st place nonetheless!
How many people typically show up for VONATS? Hard to tell from videos online.

Well now I am sure after my sheer dominance at the local track yesterday with the old 5 link X2, I will win OK, maybe sheer dominance was more like respectable lap times and not embarrassing myself but I'll take it.

Don't be worried about being in the way, everyone is there to have a good time. I raced at the VONATs three years in a row. In 2009 it was my first race since the early 90's, I felt like I was just a moving obstacle for the fast guys. I don't remember how I placed, but I had an absolute blast running an RC-10 around a track again. In my experience the VONATS has a very relaxed atmosphere with a bunch of folks playing with toy cars.RCveteran wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2017 6:46 pm I keep wanting to make the long journey there one day. Is there a place for a club level hack, seems most of you guys that show up are top level drivers past or present. I guess the classic and wheelie class would be a good equalizer. I am no fool though and Cliff Lett would be aggravated by me being in the way if he was driving a Wild Willy and I had a wonder buggy.
That race back in 2009 reminded how much fun racing was.
Today I try to get to my local track, which happens to be RCE, 1-2 times a month for club racing. I am still mostly a moving obstacle, but it always brings a smile to my face to be on the track.

Yeah, the RCE guys for the regular racing were super nice. I just tried to make clean laps and stay out of the way. Several of the regulars came up to thank me and chat for driving clean, being aware on the track and giving them a good lane to get by. Also gave me a few good pointers to help get my car more dialed in. Of course, they change the layout often enough I never get to run on the same track twice.
They just posted video the other day of the new track layout with some club racing...

I am almost ready for the race this weekend. Just need to check a couple more things and pack up my gear.

I have so much crap I want to bring, I ended up going to HomeDepot on the way to work to buy a rolling/stackable set of toolboxes. LOL.
Does this ever turn into a swap-meet type thing? Should I bring my boxes of torn down RC10s, vintage parts, and electronics?

I bought a toolbox like that at Homedepot a couple weeks ago. Really helps with three buggies.lmw94002 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2017 10:55 am I have so much crap I want to bring, I ended up going to HomeDepot on the way to work to buy a rolling/stackable set of toolboxes. LOL.

Like those paint jobs... no 10T? I just realized yesterday, I didn't have a body for my 10T but luckily I had a single unpainted one in the pile of bodies. Glad I suck at painting... so it only takes a couple days to do one.

Well technically I have a nice one to run but no drivetrain. These guys were budget builds just to have something to run. Infact the classic was a last minute decision.

Re: 2017 Vintage Off-Road Nationals - R/C Excitement, Inc. Fitchburg, MA - September 15-17
do you just need a Stealth? I got about 5 in different stages of rebuild. And have a 10T that is supposed to arrive tomorrow from Ebay. You'd more than welcome to borrow some stuff to race the weekend.
Ironically I don't really collect the classic short-arm RC10s although I do have two 6gear CEs. I sold what I had for those so I have nothing for classic.

It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

No, it's complete, a T2. What I meant was electronics. I bought a trackstar combo for the 2wd buggy but that's the only new sensored Blinky setup I have .
I might bring the truck along for show n tell though. Maybe a couple others.
