*Parts needed to run modern 2.2 rims/tires on your rc10*

Post by scr8p »

as long as your cars have the correct buggy suspension parts, here's what to get:

duratrax bx front rims and nitro rear rims. they're 2.2's, so modern tires will fit.

then, get a set of mip b2 cvd's.

4 of these bearings for the rear hub carriers.

4 of these bearings for the front rims.

if you have other ways of doing it, post it up.

the b2-b3 rims are discontinued. but if you can find them, use them. the duratrax rims are plastic, not nylon, so they're not as durable. but they'll work.

I don't think the links copied over properly, unless it's my computer.

Nice tech thread!

What about using some of the .15 or .2" axle spacers that the dirt oval folks make to space the wheels out a little. You should then be able to use the stronger and more easily available b-4 type wheels despite their different offset.
I haven't tried on an AE car, but it works perfect on the losi axles

the offest comparison between a b3 and b4 rim is about 8mm. too much for a wheel spacer.

So if you come accross the b2-b3 rims are they a direct fit if you have the 3/16 axle and what size tires do they run? What I mean is can you fit modern tires on them?

I made a set of rear universal joint axles for my old Worlds car. They basically were just longer than the originals to make up for the offset of the B4 wheels. There was almost 3/8" length to make up the difference. They worked really well too.

I sold this car to a guy in France about 4 years ago. If you are on this forum, take a pic and share!!

I have the B3 sport rear rims and the B3 team car rear rims . The sport rims are for the 1/4" axles and the team car rims fit the 3/16 axles.

because the old axles used a 1/4" bearing, and the old rims were tapered for those axles. the newer rims are for a 3/16" axles, hence the need for a different bearing and axle. now, you could get just a 3/16" stub axles and use dogbones instead of getting cvd's. but you'll still need to get the correct bearings. you can't beat cvd's, though.

For all of you who can live with hex wheel adapters here's what I use for modern 2.2" rims:

THESE HPI Adapters

The "red" ones are a direct fit to the 1/4" axles, BUT you have to sand down or cut off the part circled yellow (for buggy rims and non HPI truck rims)

If you combine the "blue" ones meant for Losi with the 3/16" axles you also gain about 4.2mm of offset per side which is a bit more than 5/32".

I hope this helps some of you guys.

with the b2 cvd's can you use the same wheels that you would normally use on a B4?? If not could you buy the B4 cvd's?
Thanks
